Which brings me to another thing this community does that's starting to get on my nerves. Not so many people just enjoy the ride anymore, they've gotta analyze and criticize everything. Did the creator of the OC ask for your opinion? Say the creator was some nine year old fan who drew a picture of their OC, gave it a backstory, and worked super hard on it. And then, without thinking if the kid cares for the "sanctity of canon", the fandom dog-piles on the kid, telling them their OC's not good because it's an OP/UP alicorn. Not only did you ruin the kid's fun for no good reason, but you make them shy away from participating in the fandom due to a fear that people are gonna bully them for having fun again.
And that's just what your opinions tend to end up as: bullying. Most of the time it's really subtle, but look where it's gotten us. We've got a stigma against alicorn OCs, and whenever someone tries to break away from it-- actually get creative and let their imagination take them places they've never been-- we tell them, "No, you can't do that because it differs from what we're used to." or rather, what we prefer.
They don't deserve that. Nobody does. You know why? I have seen just as many-- if not more-- terrible unicorn, pegasus, and earth pony OCs as I have legitimate (not for laughs) alicorn OCs. But even if I didn't personally like the OC, I let the creators be because they were just trying to have fun, and it's terrible when someone brings unwanted criticism when you're trying to do that. If you've got nothing nice to say and nobody asked for your opinion, don't say it.
