  1. Another one from the List of Things Hasbro Won't Let a Brony Do in a Fangame:

    3)  Pinkie-Swears aren't the kind of things I should need to bleep over.

      Sparklefan1234

"Pickles!" isn't a Pinkie Pie swear?

  2. I've been sitting on these for years---I think it's high time I started posting the List of Things Hasbro Won't Let a Brony Do in a Fangame:

    1)  When naming OCs for the Canterlot Royal Guard, the following names are off-limits:  Cannon Fodder, Red Shirt, Brown Pants.

      Don't forget "Kenny". :wau:

  3. Well, shoot---registration is open for Whinny City Pony Con, but I'm suddenly finding myself wondering if I want to spend over $550 to go to a fan convention for a show I haven't watched in I-don't-know-how-long.

It's a sobering feeling:  I really did like G-4 while it was on; they did an excellent job with the characters, and I'm still working on my Weather Factory Meltdown fangame.  I cried back in 2019 when the show had its finale, simply because it was all over.  In a lot of ways, the show is a part of who I've been since 2010.

But...is it still a part of who I am today...?

      Rikifive

This is so relatable, I totally get what you mean.

I haven't watched pony content in yeeeeears either, yet I'm still slowly working on pony stuff. However, I do intend to give up on my pony games in the near future, though not because I lost interest, but mainly because real life just doesn't want to cooperate, heh.

$550 to go to a fan convention? You account travel and all that stuff, right? Well, that's a lot, I'd never be willing to go even if that was for something I'd be super hyped for and the like. :twi: For the same reason I've never ever in my entire life been on vacations. My budget kinda tight. :eager:

      HereComesTom

$550 is the hotel plus the registration; I live near enough to Windy City to drive there.  Food and gas aren't a part of that, but I know those'll up the cost.  It's high partly because the con starts on the 7th and ends on the 9th, and while I could save myself money by arriving on the 7th and leaving on the 9th, I'd prefer to be rested; I plan to arrive on the 6th and leave on the 10th.

Just after I posted this, I realized that I still daydream about a portal to Equestria opening in my laundry room---I'm not exactly proud to admit to something that silly, but it is enough to tell me that G-4 is still very much a part of who I am; I've already paid for registration, and I think after my next payday, I'll look into a hotel.  Maybe I'll cut a day to save some money; I don't know.

I hope you'll enjoy your time then!

  4. After weeks of waiting for my Capcom Legacy Arcade1up cabinet to arrive, and about two super-sweaty hours assembling it, I discover a sad truth:  I suck at the games that're on it :/

...At least it looks pretty good in my man-cave!

  5. Well, apparently this glitched and left me a blank status update.  I'll see if editing it helps...

I think I said something about the latest episode of MYM in here; Izzy...she has no respect for other ponies' property.  That's a pretty big flaw, and makes Pinkie Pie's inability to respect or conceive of boundaries seem small in comparison!

But they had a joke in there that would've sailed over kids' heads when Izzy was examining a stallion's key ring...!  The fact that they're putting in humor only adults would get feels like a major reason for hope for G-5, though they should probably scale it back a bit...!

Yeah the statuses are currently bugged and are submitted as empty; You have to post an empty status and then edit-in the contents.

Haven't watched any g5 content yet, so can't relate. ;P

  6. I've been playing Shups, and it seems like I never progress to level six, even when I've been in level five long enough to progress.  The enemy level got up to 166 before I was foolish enough to try to fly through a cloud of red projectiles to evade the beam-turrets' fire.

Is there a Stage 6, or is Stage 5 coded to keep throwing enemies at the player until the player makes a mistake like mine?

    1. Rikifive

      Rikifive

Oh, sadly there are no more stages at the moment, the stage 5 is the last one and it indeed keeps going forever until the difficulty becomes impossible. Sorry for the disappointment. :eager:

I'm actually surprised you're still playing this if I had to be honest. :ButtercupLaugh: I guess I should be trying to finally work on the update. :P

I'm not doing a good job lately, because I'm feeling rather odd for some reason.. Maybe it's because I don't sleep well.

      HereComesTom

I hope you get some good sleep, then!

To be honest, it's been a while since I played Shups, but every time I do, I find it very engaging---surprisingly so for a game with only two types of enemy!  I think it's because of the tight second-to-second gameplay; I always have to keep figuring out a path for my ship to travel along to get items, avoid enemy fire, and (above all else!) keep a step ahead of as many laser turrets as I can.

    3. Rikifive

      Rikifive

I'll be trying to slowly fix my sleeping schedule. Thanks e-cocosmile.png.cde425adcf54f1be69a520436a9edfc6.png

I'm really glad you're having fun with it. :fluttershy: That is kind of... unexpected, but motivating. :P

  7. Just put out some wood, hardwood, softwood, iron, stone, clay, bamboo, and tree branches---they're over on the west side of the island, in the grassy area that's kind of northwest of the store.  Dodo code is still DW9JL if you're interested; IIRC the nook store needs some of those materials to open.

  8. I don't know if you're still keeping an eye on the forum, but I hope you are---we're looking forward to the new series coming out soon!

  9. Just tried out Rikifive's prototype game---it's got a lot of promise, but obviously has a long way to go, as well:

  10. Merry Christmas, all!

...Saying that from 11pm Christmas evening in the USA means that it's already the 26th on most of the rest of the planet by now, so...it's belated.  But it still counts!!!!

    1. Astralshy

      Astralshy

      Merry Christmas for you too

No worries. Here it's indeed 11:13 AM on the 26th but it's still the last Christmas Holiday. So for me it's not belated :3

    2. Tom Gallagher

      Tom Gallagher

Merry Christmas, my awesome friend! :oneheckofahat:

  11. Wow.  I've been playing a lot of Animal Crossing New Horizons, and I found this:

I don't have this villager, but the animation and music are impressive!

  12. I think I might need to log into Facebook so I can see Facebook Marketplace.

I took a long hiatus because it was...well, so political.  But looking at some of the deals on the marketplace for arcade1up stuff...it's the best source for cabinets at reasonable prices, I think!  I hope to get my hands on a cabinet that either is empty, or that is very cheap and only has games that I already own, so I can take the guts out of it and do a custom project with it.

  13. Facebook got so political for me that, months ago, I decided to stop going to Facebook.

And today is the one day I decide to log in and see if there's anything worth seeing---and it's down!  How can one of the biggest social media platforms in existence be down?!

Must be serious. I’m glad that Twitter’s okay because that’s the only one I’m on. :rarity:

Way I see it that was a blessing. I did the same sorta thing where I stayed away for a long time and then I went back for a couple of days and I felt my intelligence begging for sweat release. Facebook is a nightmare.

    3. Rikifive

      Rikifive

Yeah, Facebook sux, I can feel my Intelligence stat dropping when I'm there. e-twibigbrain.png.59f9651fa9ae93815fbd2e51e2fc697b.png I visit it very very very rarely, but pretty much never post anything.

Aww, I checked it, seems to be working for me just fine. So how do I break it? e-twiwth.png.5878ad773cfe0efaf9dc8dc75763160a.png

  14. Wow!  For the first time, someone else streamed my fangame!

If you ever wondered what I look or sound like IRL, this'll tell you!

    1. Rikifive

      Rikifive

Awesome! It's so fun to watch someone else play games one creates :P

I heard your voice many times, but I don't recall seeing irl you, so e-eyeswoke.png.e442d218a54e0bafe7357923034d3b77.png

Very nice, although they kind of have to work on audio quality a bit, especially at the beginning, the music was too loud. :P

    2. HereComesTom

      HereComesTom

Yeah---for that matter, the only sound my game has is its music.  That's...shall we say, space for improvement?

    3. Rikifive

      Rikifive

Actually the issue is, that the streamer was too quiet, otherwise it was okay, your voice was much more audible. It's not the game's fault, the music coming from the game was quieter than the one he played at the beginning, that rainbow factory song - he just could have bumped his own volume. :P

  15. Well, TrotCon online has started, aaaaaaand...their pixel-ponies chat is dead.

I'd wanted SO much to promote Weather Factory Meltdown; I rushed and worked hard to get a good update in before the con began, aaaaaand...no chance to promote it!

  16. Well, THAT was stressful and disappointing...

My brother's box spring and mattress were crawling with bedbugs a week ago.  So we put them inside a GIANT plastic bag that is sold with a kind of a poison air-freshener...the idea is that you get the mattress and box spring in the bag, get the bag airtight with the poison air-freshener inside it, and let it sit for seven days.  After the seven days, the bedbugs inside are supposed to be dead, and even their eggs should be destroyed.

...You can tell from the word "supposed" that it's not true.

We dragged the mattress outside, opened the bag, and found there were lots and lots of live bedbugs still in the bag.

What's really crazy about it is that, now that we've gotten it outside and opened the bags...we can't bring that thing back inside; we'd recontaminate the house!  And I just know someone in our HOA is going to complain about it.  I called the HOA first to explain the situation---and sprayed the siding that the whole thing is leaning on with a spray that (I hope) will keep them from crawling back in through the walls.

I'm a bit worried that getting rid of it will be a doozy; no one really wants to get near bedbugs, and I know firsthand why :/

    1. Tom Gallagher

      Tom Gallagher

      Hope it works out.

      Pesky bugs. :sealed:

  17. Ugh.  I wouldn't wish bedbugs on anyone!

We have them in my condo.  The main nest seems like it was in my brother's box spring; we've got it in a couple of giant plastic bags, with a poisonous air-freshener-thingy inside that, after a week of being sealed in there, should kill the live bugs as well as the eggs.

On top of that, I set off four different bed bug bombs (foggers?) in four different rooms...and I'm still finding live bed bugs, even in one of the rooms that had the bed bug bombs in them.

I guess there is no one silver bullet vs. bed bugs.  You just gotta keep spraying the edges of the room until they no longer come back... :/

  18. Well, my AtGames Legends Ultimate Arcade finally arrived, and I spent a good, sweaty hour assembling it!

So far...I like the Arcade1up version of Centipede better :/  There's some audio lag with the Legends Ultimate, plus the visuals...ugh, so hard to tell where the edges of the screen are!  Millipede is fine (it's easy to tell where the edges are due to the area your "elf" can move in being dark aqua), and it's got a lot of crazy titles---I'll find enough to keep me occupied for quite a while!

I'm not sure when I'll try to fix my partycade, but I plan to.  Not sure if I'll give it way, either, since I like Centipede on the partycade more than I like it on the AtGames machine...

    2. Megas

      Megas

      >AtGames

Well there's the issue. AtGames is notorious for having really poor emulation for games, just look at their Sega Genesis and Pacman consoles

    3. HereComesTom

      HereComesTom

I own their Sega Genesis ripoff, and...eh, I don't use it much :/

So far the Legends Ultimate seems to be okay.

  19. Well...what an interesting situation...

First piece of context:  Back in 2020, I struggled to get my hands on a Centipede arcade1up cabinet for my man-cave.  I finally got a Centipede 4-in-1 Partycade, but then something went horribly wrong:  the screen went completely white every time I turned it on, and stayed that way.  Couldn't play any of the games on it!  So I contacted the arcade1up support team, and they gave me a replacement.

Second piece of context:  Realizing that buying arcade1up cabinets one at a time wasn't the most economical way of getting games in my man-cave, I decided to invest in an AtGames Legends Ultimate Arcade, which has 300 games on it.  As it happens, said Legends Ultimate Arcade has all four of the games that the Centipede 4-in-1 Partycade has on it, and it's currently on its way.

Third piece of context:  I just discovered my Centipede 4-in-1 Partycade once again had the white screen of death.  And I'm not sure it's still under warranty; it may or may not be.  I'll find out soon; I've contacted the arcade1up support team again.

So...all-in-all, an interesting situation:  do I ask for a refund?  Do I ask for a replacement when I'm already going to get all the games that're on that Partycade, and then some?  Do they even HAVE any replacements?  Is it even under warranty?  It'll be a close call if it is.

I'm not even sure what I feel about this.  If it's not under warranty anymore, then there's nothing to be done---unless it's something as simple that I can fix myself, like some wires not being connected or something.  In which case I might as well crack it open, since I'll have nothing to lose by attempting to fix it.

  20. THE GRAND LIST OF THINGS HASBRO WON'T LET A BRONY DO IN A FANGAME:

    1)  When naming OCs for the Canterlot Royal Guard, the following names are off-limits:  Cannon Fodder, Red Shirt, Brown Pants.

    2)  Adding random tie-ins with other Hasbro franchises like Mr. Potato Head are okay.  Making a GLaDOS Mr. Potato Head as a boss is not, until and unless Hasbro secures the rights for a GLaDOS Mr. Potato Head toy.

    3)  Pinkie-Swears aren't the kind of things I should need to bleep over.

  21. Just got my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.  My arm's only a little sore, but I'm getting a lot more tired than I usually get in the evening.

I don't know how or if the vaccine will affect me; it could be something to do with my sinuses instead.  Either way, I plan to take it easy tonight!

    1. Tom Gallagher

      Tom Gallagher

It's great of you to get vaccinated. Glad you feel okay! :kindness:

  22. I rarely post in my feed, but I have a video that I made that I'd like to share---feel free to share it around; it's some really good news about G-5!

  23. I have to say that I had a very strange and slightly disturbing experience, but at least I got to be the hero of the story this time!

Here's what happened:  my brother got a request out of the blue from someone on Facebook, a girl with a pretty and nerdy photo, asking to start a relationship with him.  No one he'd ever met or heard of before, but he is more or less in the market for a girlfriend, so he was interested.

If this sounds suspicious to you, I'll spoil the ending and say you're spot-on.  The ending isn't really the interesting part of the story, anyway:  how I got there is the interesting part!

My brother told me about all this over dinner (it was just this afternoon that he was first contacted), so I got out my phone and looked up "hangouts app" on google, and about the third or fourth suggestion was "hangouts app scam".

Huh.  Why am I not surprised?

So I tapped "hangouts app scam" on Google and, lo and behold: THE very first page that Google listed was a Federal Trade Commission web page, warning people about scams where someone starts a relationship, keeps it going for a while, and then asks for money.  The FTC's page also suggested I do a "reverse image search" on the person's image to see if they just downloaded a photo of a pretty girl off the internet and then used that photo to pretend to be her.

Well, my brother was busy after dinner (not with anything having to do with her, either, thank goodness), so I took it upon myself to learn about this would-be suitor.  It'll come as no surprise to you that the photo came from Twitter from someone with a completely different name...advertising the kinds of images that I wouldn't talk about on THIS site.

Again:  why am I not surprised by any of this?

It gets more interesting:  I had a school friend on facebook who I noticed was also friends with her.  I decided to warn him about her and let him know what happened to my brother---and it turns out she had talked with my school friend, earlier this very afternoon, with the exact same request:  start a relationship---just out of the blue, start a relationship!

So...she's either a two-timing lowlife, or a scam artist.  ...Or conceivably both:  it's not like those are mutually exclusive categories!

...It's just a little disturbing that things like this can happen to those who're close to me.  But there is a lesson to be learned from it all:  vigilance, using your head, and reading relevant government notices about scams can save your bacon, as well as the bacon of your kith and kin!

    1. Rikifive

      Rikifive

Hmm interesting indeed. I've heard of these things, but that never happened to me. :P

Stuff like this happening on Facebook is not a surprise.

  24. Well, I finally fixed my Wii yesterday---the reason I couldn't play my Virtual Console games was, for some reason, a bad disk drive that I bought on ebay.  When I bought another that was actually good, things finally worked!

And I can even play Wii disc games and gamecube games on it again!

I decided to celebrate by playing some Super Mario Galaxy!  And I have to say:  I don't think any Super Mario title has come close to the gameplay creativity that SMG had to offer; just adding a point-and-click interface to the system opened up HUGE possibilities for new control and new capabilities!

    1. Tom Gallagher

      Tom Gallagher

SMG is still my favourite Mario game. :ph3ar: It’s funny that you’ve got yours working again when we just got ours out last night for New Years!
