  1. Nice, but I don't remember Koopa Beach sounding so...ominous! Maybe it's the organ that brings out some of the minor-key-ish parts of it?
  2. Do you suppose that's because that's the world you're used to? Or maybe because it's the world that has the characters and world you've really gotten to know over the last seven or eight years?
  3. Sorry if there's too much stuff about G-5 flying around already, but...well... So...yeah, the leaked G-5 information inspired this fanfiction; I took what little I knew and tried building a story with it that introduces newer versions of the mane six to each other. I could use some feedback on it; please let me know what you think: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12852499/1/Brand-New-Day I'm considering doing another one of these with a few changes to the plot, the worlds, and what it means to be and earth pony.
  4. Are animations allowed? Because I made this one a couple years ago:
  5. I looked up real-life lore about fairies, and it turns out their weakness is bread. (True story!)
  6. Class M stars are all over place in the universe!
  7. Some of the faster changes in the tune aren't quite suited for the organ, e.g. the starman theme, but overall it was excellent!
  8. I thought it was released, but (according to the box) only for super gamers! That said, I was alive at the time, and I don't recall seeing The Lost Levels game anywhere---not until the Super Mario All-Stars game for the SNES, anyway!
  9. I'm hoping this animation is smooth enough; I think I'll build on this one to finish up the tail-animation:
  10. Sorry if I sound insensitive by saying this, but this truly, honestly looks to me like it's exactly what someone would post if they wanted to mock liberals by pretending to be one and then completely going over-the-top. If someone posted this 10 years ago, I probably wouldn't hesitate to believe it was meant to be a joke. These days, there's a better-than-even chance that it's actually serious, which is concerning. I mean, when you think about it logically---well, BronyNumber42licious summed it up perfectly. Blaming you for what Hernan Cortez did to the Aztecs is just as stupid as blaming Nelson Mandela for stuff that Robert Mugabe did, or blaming Confucius for something Mao Zedong did, or blaming Garret Wang (a korean actor, the first korean who popped into my head) for something Kim Jong Un did. It just doesn't make any sense; each person is responsible for their own actions, not for others' actions, especially when their lives don't even overlap chronologically. Also, to believe that a person's identity and character aren't defined by the color of their skin is the very definition of not-being-racist. And yes, it's possible to be racist towards white people, and to think that you can't be racist against white people is simultaneously racist in and of itself and enabling racism. Reverse-racism, maybe, but reverse-racism is still racism. So...all-in-all, these lines of thinking, whether it's you thinking them or people around you, just don't make any sense at all. And it's how little sense it makes that makes your post look to me like it could function as a joke. Again, I'm sorry if it sounds insensitive for me to say that, but I'm trying to be honest and put it in perspective.
  11. How would you feel if they kept the story of FiM going in books and comics?
  12. Thanks for posting this---my main re-exposure to this song was through the mashup between this song and the Final Bowser Theme from Yoshi's Island for the SNES. Don't get me wrong, that was a greatmashup, but I like being able to hear what the original sounded like before SNES BGM got mixed into it
  13. Well, the tail-animation isn't off to the best start; this is the animation at 10x normal speed---I try to start out with eight frames, then build on those to sixteen, then fill out the full eighty, but these eight frames make her tail's animation look...jiggly. Especially at the top. I think I'm going to have to smooth things out a bit before I can move forward...
  14. I've bought very little merch---unless you count books; I got the Tails of Equestria sourcebook for the tabletop game, the first six mane-six-specific chapterbooks by G.M. Barrow, and I bought one toy to use as a drawing reference. Besides that, most of my toy-purchases have been either for Toys for Tots or for a pegasister I know IRL. Yeah...TBH rebooting the continuity means the characters they have, now have opportunities to start over and grow again. They could also change their backstories, ambitions, and even their families---we could see what Applejack would've been like if her parents were still alive, for instance. Actually, you might want to reserve judgment until you've read my fanfic---I'm writing a kind of a proof-of-concept fanfic right now called Brand New Day---it's kind of like my attempt at writing a believable pilot for G-5, or at least it started that way, but I'm putting my own experiences into it more and more to the point where I'm not sure what it is anymore---the only thing I'm certain that it is anymore is that it's an attempt at a "what if" scenario where Twilight is an earth pony with a very different backstory from her G-4 counterpart, and the overall theme is Family instead of Friendship.
  15. I realize there are a lot of threads about this kind of thing, but I wanted to talk about some reasons why the leaked information makes sense and also why it doesn't. To be honest, my first reaction was hoping it was all a hoax. Then I started thinking about ways in which it makes perfect sense to reboot the franchise, and ways in which it makes no sense at all to do a reboot. I compiled my thoughts and feelings into this video; I think a lot of bronies are feeling the same way as I am. But one thing I ended with that I'm not seeing much of, is hope that the G-4 story can continue in books and comics, even if the TV show has a finale---it worked for Star Trek, didn't it?
  16. I'm crossing my fingers that, even if the TV show ends, the story of FiM can continue in comics and books. I've got a whole rant on this subject about how much and how little ending FiM makes sense sitting on my hard disk; I should get it onto youtube soon...
  17. It's false because neither pens nor swords can lift weights; they're inanimate objects. Celestia does not need to eat a Jimmy Dean's breakfast before she can raise the sun.
  18. I've done a lot of thinking about this. I made the mistake of watching the movie while I was suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder, and actually that whole invasion gave me anxiety attacks---it's silly, but they really did. That said, those attacks made me think quite a bit about the invasion, and I concluded that it succeeded entirely because of the element of surprise. If it weren't for the huge brown smokescreen that concealed the fleet, the pegasus ponies would've seen them coming, formed a tornado, and either ripped the fleet out of the sky or forced them to surrender. And if she weren't fast with those obsidian orb grenades, the princesses would've been able to get away---though I agree with ShadOBabe on this: I dunno...IIRC, after Cadence got crystallized, Celestia spent time talking about a counter-plan instead of dodging, which is a brain fart, but then Luna tried to fly away, but she made the mistake of not dodging or teleporting while doing so---okay, yeah, actually, ShadOBabe's post is spot-on; pretty much only Twilight has an excuse here, because she was occupied, using her magic to save Luna from falling down and shattering. Apart from that, removing the princesses meant there was nopony to lead a resistance, so it was pretty much a rout after that; ponies' instinct is to run from threats and not so much to fight back, so the numerically-superior storm guards pretty much pwned the whole city.
  19. Thanks I'll start on the tail-animation soon, but it could take a while.
  20. I've come up with two different versions of her back-hooves animation; I could use some feedback on them---which do you think is better? This one, I made only a few changes close to her back hooves: This one I made more changes, making her red hind hoof curl a little bit more for a frame or three: Which do you think is better?
  21. Thanks I took a break for several weeks to get back to coding my game, and now I think I could use another break from coding to finish up this base-project. Here's the mane animation with the one out-of-place frame fixed; if you guys think it looks decent enough, I'll post a base with all 80 frames so anyone can use it: Probably next I'll fix up the animation of her hind legs, and then I'll start on another 80-frame project with her tail (wish me luck!)
  22. It's not clear how close they'll stick to G-4, really. I mean, when you create a new iteration of something that's had several generations and had decades to accumulate a mythos to it, there's a lot of stuff to pick and choose from, and you can insert your own ideas just about anywhere. For instance, when they made G-4, they took elements from plenty of other generations of MLP: the name of Ponyville had been around since G-2, Twilight and Applejack were from G-1, and the names Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity were from G-3, but none of their personalities or abilities really exactly match up with what the previous generations were. Sweetie Belle wasn't Rarity's sister in G-3, Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo were about the same age, Cheerilee was a storyteller but not a teacher...the list of differences goes on. Extrapolating from the differences between generations, we might tune into G-5's premiere to find out that Fluttershy is an outgoing toddler, Applejack is Rarity's mother, Shining Armor and Twilight aren't related by blood and are instead happily married with Flash Sentry as their son---you get the idea. (Just so there's no confusion, I'm pulling these possibilities out of the air, not basing them on any of the leaked information, nor are they really things I have strong feelings about.) Bottom line: there's no telling how close they'll stick.
  23. Probably a part of it is how the worst parts of a given group tend to get the most attention, due to being so shocking in their behavior. This isn't not confined to fandoms, either. I mean, the Trump supporters you hear about aren't the mainstream republican voters, but supremacist groups. Because those supremacists are the most shocking, they are the ones you hear about, and they end up making all Trump supporters look bad. And it's not the well-thought-out goals of the New York chapter of BLM that you hear about, but the most inciteful and least-reasonable goals of other chapters that make the news, and that gives people the wrong idea about BLM in general. Probably the same thing is happening to the Brony fandom, too.
