Anyone Feel Born in the Wrong Time Period?
Black Sabbath replied to Will Guide's topic in General Discussion
But why? Early 20th centurary were objectively worse than we have it now. You had things like racial segregation, world war 1, the spanish flu etc etc. -
So quickly gonna derail this thread a bit but I've been on the fence about watching this one. Is it any better than season one?
-
The shield hero one. I know there's only like two episodes out at the moment, but I've read the manga and been wanting to complain about for a while now. And now that's it's finally an anime, I can do so in this thread. I do want to stress that my issue with the show isn't with the idea of the main character doing morally questionable things, but rather how the story handles it. And shield hero handles it in the worst possible way, namely it doesn't leave any room for discussion. Whenever the main character does something that you might find to be evil, the manga spends the better part of five pages justifying it. Take the whole "main character keeping child slaves" for example, whenever it's brought up the manga goes out of its way to have characters (often the slaves themselves) talk about how it's okay because he's nice to them and how they actually want to be his slaves etc. Meanwhile, the only characters who do point out that it's kind of fucked for someone to keep child slaves are either the obviously evil antagonist that everybody hates yet somehow simultaneously blindly trust or one of the other heroes. But the issue with the latter is that by the point they do start to actually argue with the main character over morals, they've already been established to be bumbling idiots that can hardly wipe their ass without the main character needing to go and clean up their resulting mess. Then there's the issue that everybody supposedly hates the main character, but that's really only the case whenever the story needs to get pity points for the main character. Or how the closest thing to the main villain has no motivation whatsoever to act the way she does. But eh, I stopped reading it a while back so maybe it has improved.

Your reaction if the US and Canada were under Japanese rule?
Black Sabbath replied to FirePuppy's topic in General Discussion
How is that relevant? Besides, it was fairly justified. Japan did some pretty fucked up things in Korea so I can understand why Korea might want to limit Japan's cultural influence. -
Your reaction if the US and Canada were under Japanese rule?
Black Sabbath replied to FirePuppy's topic in General Discussion
That probably wasn't alternative history, Japan DID actually conquer Korea in world war 2. -
Gonna stop you there, Starlight created her village long after Nightmare Moon got banished so that isn't the reason. They also specifically says that the reason Starlight created her village was to create a community without cutie marks. The whole "You can't have a nightmare If you never dream" line is just a metaphor. But according to the comics, she couldn't enter other's dreams until after she was banished to the moon.

Movies you have seen that you are not comfortable with
Black Sabbath replied to FirePuppy's topic in Media Discussion
Revenge of the nerds. Some of the "jokes" haven't exactly aged very well. -
Yeah, and your point is? I still have my right to say that's an overreaction. I get that you like Disney, but going "I'm gonna avoid you from now" because someone made a joke that's about as old as the movies themselves is still silly.
-
That's a bit of an overreaction, don't you think? It's just a bit of fun. And it's not like this is a revolutionizing take on Disney films, the joke "haha, it'd be kind of creepy to do the same thing in real life" isn't exactly new.

books H.P. Lovecraft hated writing?
Black Sabbath replied to heavens-champion's topic in Media Discussion
That's most likely false, the only relevant search result you get when you google "Did H.P Lovecraft hate writing" is this thread. -

Would you rather die by fire or water?
Black Sabbath replied to Dashy 4 Ever's topic in General Discussion
Water. Drowning may not be the best way to die but it's a hell of a lot better than burning alive. -

Do we expect to much from FiM now?
Black Sabbath replied to imawesome's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I'm gonna say no to this one, mostly because to this fandom "expecting too much from the show" is at this point pretty much synonymous with "not ignoring all the show's flaws". I'm not saying that there aren't people with too high of an expectation of what FIM can do, but those have always been around and they have always been a pretty low number.- 41 replies

Unpopular Opinions Regarding the Show
Black Sabbath replied to DITR's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Yes, but again she's a child. And as previously mentioned, most justice systems in the real world tends to treat kids who have committed crimes differently from adults who have done the same for a reason. So it's a bit annoying that the show is implying that a child is more responsible for their actions than adults are if the latter says they're sorry. Don't get me wrong, I don't really want the episode to have ended with her having to apologize and everything immediately being fine and dandy, but I'd rather she had received a punishment that implies that they're at least trying to reform her rather than just throwing her in jail. But even if her unwillingness to immediately apologize means that she's unable to be redeemed, that wouldn't really make her being thrown into jail less annoying. After all, the script didn't magically include her. No, the writers made the decision to make a child irredeemable whilst making the adult villains sympathetic and apologetic. The fact that Cozy had friends is pretty much irrelevant. You could easily make the argument that she never truly grasped what friendship means or some bullshit. This wouldn't even be that much of reach as it seems to be a very common opinion people have. Heck, even the fan wiki claims that "[Cozy Glow] thinks little of the true virtues of friendship, believing she can easily make more friends without them, and cares for no-one but herself, seeing friendship solely as a means to gain power.".- 1,397 replies

Unpopular Opinions Regarding the Show
Black Sabbath replied to DITR's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I'll give you that. There weren't really much or Twilight to "grab onto", but does that really mean Cozy couldn't have been redeemed? I mean, Discord didn't really have much for anyone to "grab onto" either before he got redeemed. Heck, the only reason he was able to form a friendship with Fluttershy in the first place was because he lived there with her whilst being redeemed. I'm not saying that the writers should have had her apologize and immediately been forgiven but it would have been nice if there had been some kind of punishment that at least implied they were trying to redeem her. Like, force her to attend extra friendships lesson or something like that. But nope, it's straight to jail for her.- 1,397 replies

Unpopular Opinions Regarding the Show
Black Sabbath replied to DITR's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Oh shit, didn't realize not having friends gave you a pass to try and take over the world on three separate occasions. Speaking of Discord trying to take over the world, you are aware of the last time he did so was after he had made a friend, right? Oh, but he gave Celestia some flowers so live and let live I guess. Fuck that child though, how dare she try and take over the world once? Off to jail with her. Sarcasm aside, the problem is that Cozy is a child and there's a reason that most countries have an age of criminal responsibility. But Starlight should have known better. Yeah, so she didn't really know what friendship was but neither did Twilight and she didn't create a cult which did everything from crippling people against their will to utilizing brainwashing to keep people from leaving.- 1,397 replies

Black Sabbath replied to KillerKingBakudan's topic in General Discussion
Hypothermia since that can make you feel overheated so you get the best out of both worlds. -
Is making the characters flawed the only option?
Black Sabbath replied to Sepul-Coloratura's topic in Sugarcube Corner
I feel like the problem with this post is that it assumes that a story should continue even after its character have reached the end of their character arcs. If a character has learned enough to surpass their flaws, their purpose in the story is more or less done and the story should either shift the focus to other characters who haven't yet gotten over their own flaws or start reaching its end. -
Misunderstood episode(s)?
Black Sabbath replied to TheAnimationFanatic's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
The mysterious mare-do-well. Maybe not the entire episode as much as the part where the mane six brags about their heroic accomplishments to Rainbow Dash. I see a lot of people saying that that means they were equally bad as Rainbow, but that sort of ignores that the entire plan was to make Rainbow realize how annoying it was listening to someone else bragging and that Applejack, at the end of the episode, flat-out says that bragging about your accomplishments is okay as long as you don't overdo it (which Rainbow did and the rest of the mane six didn't). -

general Have you ever tried clothes for the opposite gender?
Black Sabbath replied to Jokuc's topic in General Discussion
I don't really see why how often you see something is relevant. I agree, hence why I'm giving you mine. I'm sorry if it came across as my intentions behind my posts were to start a fight with you. That wasn't what I wanted, and I apologize if my posts came across as too agressive. As for the whole "no need to judge me for my opinions" part, isn't it funny that you say this despite judging those who crossdress? Ok, this is starting to irk me a bit. If me arguing with you bugs you so much, why do you keep the argument going? If it bothers you so much, all you have to do is stop replying and the argument will go away. All I'm saying is that it sends mixed signals when you keep responding. All it says is that there are fans of any age and gender, but that hardly proves your point. After all, there are guys who are fans of wearing skirts, does that mean that skirts are made for all genders?
