I think the problem is gaining popularity. Adding dozens of random people for starters, shows how invaluable online friendship can be. Face to face relationships are vital to successful friendships. The Internet can lead to deception I've found.

Yes and no. You can make equally strong friendship online if you don't sell "friendship" itself short. Adding everyone on the forum to your friends list is certainly not the way to go about it. I know I've made a number of my closest friend online and we're closer then some of the people I know from university.
