  2. GalaCon Charity Auction: At this time, the people over at Bronies for Good want in-kind donations for their upcoming charity auction, and they need your help! With the extra donations, they plan to run GalaCon for another two hours of charity auction extravaganza for their beneficiary Animal Equality! This charity will continue to dedicate itself to the Seeds of Kindness fundraiser run by Bronies for Good, making this the fifth successive year the convention has supported them! A silent auction, followed by a quick sale on Saturday will allow people to bid on items they wish to own throughout most of the convention, then the live auction on Sunday will determine who will earn the most valuable items. Contributing to the Charity Auction To submit your item(s), you will need to go to the GalaCon charity auction page and then to “Charity Auction 2017 – Item Registration Form.” It is advised that you fill out the form for every item, even if you decide to bring it along to the convention with you rather than mailing it. Don’t worry, you will be notified if your donation meets the requirements before carrying it to the convention! If you have any questions or concerns, please email GalaCon at How the Auction will work There will be, in total, three auctions; the silent auction, the small charity auction held on Saturday and the big charity auction on Sunday before the closing ceremony. The silent auction will run from Saturday until Sunday at about 1 p.m. Items will be presented in the gallery, along with a number marked onto them. You can place your bids on the numbered bidding lists. Then, after the silent auction, some of the items will be given into the two live auctions according to the value of said items. All other items are sold to the highest bidder according to the bidding lists. (An announcement will be made on Sunday afternoon with additional details and instructions.) Both of the live auctions will run as such: Items are going to be presented on stage and will give you a chance to place a bid on said item by raising your hand. The item is then sold at the highest bid. Make sure to stay for the live auctions, even if the items at the gallery do not interest you, as there will be many more special and secret items that will not be showcased at the gallery nor in the catalogue! For detailed information, please read their charity auction rules and information regarding the silent auction, they will also provide information on registration and the overall process of the silent auction. If you have more questions, please contact About Bronies for Good The show has taught them that a pony’s compassion goes wide, ranging past country borders and races, and Fluttershy’s compassion for animals ranges just as such; from a bear to a squirrel, or even chicken. Bronies for Good implements this message into the real world, where they run fundraising campaigns and relying on comparative research, such as that of GiveWell and Animal Charity Evaluators to always find and support the best charities in the world. About Animal Equality When animals are abused or to suffer, Animal Equality is there to help them. The organisation has offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, and India, from which it conducts investigations to bring light to cases of animal abuse and to educate the public about them. Animal Charity Evaluators estimated that it saves multiple animals for every dollar donated and recommends it as one of the best animal charities in the world. View the full article

  4. Bronies for Good Charity Album Release: Seeds of Kindness: A Change of Heart Each year, musicians, artists, and brony media organizers come together from all across the fandom to make sure Bronies for Good’s annual Seeds of Kindness drive kicks off with a bang. In just a few days, our seventh charity album drops. With 14 songs, over an hour of music, and genres spanning from orchestral, to folk, to several different subgenres of EDM, A Change of Heart is the culmination of months of work from talented, and diverse musicians, all united in their dedication to making the world a better place. After that, it’s up to you. The Seeds of Kindness fundraisers have been an enormous success, thanks to the altruism and generosity of you, the fandom. Come join us in celebration as we kick off another fundraising season with our release party for Seeds of Kindness: A Change of Heart! Stream and group chat enabled by Ponyville Live! On Saturday, February 11, at 4 p.m. EST (9 p.m. UTC), Ponyville Live will host an online fundraiser, complete with a stream of the album, and a public group chat with musicians. When you donate, you can download A Change of Heart, and all of Bronies for Good’s previous albums! You can already donate, and you’ll be able to download all past albums right away as well as A Change of Heart upon the start of the release party. The Theme A Change of Heart continues to promote the theme of last year’s album: global empathy. The concept of global empathy is oft misunderstood because it is a very dry term for a profoundly personal and emotional process. Humans are instinctively compassionate; upon witnessing the suffering of sentient beings, we are motivated with a desire to help alleviate said suffering. Regardless of race, background, or country, we care and seek to do our best to help those in need. However, everyone’s awareness has limitations. The modern world is fast-paced, and the suffering of others can all too often seem abstract, especially when it is very far away. It takes work to both remain aware, and to keep one’s heart from becoming jaded. A Change of Heart is all about overcoming those obstacles, as individuals, and as a people. The Charity It is important for any charitable enterprise to back a trustworthy and effective cause. Seeds of Kindness benefits the Against Malaria Foundation – an organization that saves thousands of lives by helping to improve health conditions in less-developed nations. GiveWell has rated it one of the best charities in the world. Over 200 million people contract malaria every year, and many who survive are locked in poverty due to expensive treatments. It is a permanent catastrophe. It is also easily preventable. The Against Malaria Foundation stands out because of its strong track record and commitment to efficiency, program monitoring, and transparency. As malaria-infected mosquitoes mostly bite at night, it can be prevented with cheap, long-lasting insecticidal nets. As little as $3 buys a net that will protect two people for two or three years and contribute to the permanent elimination of the disease. View the full article

  15. Ponyville Live Lives! Poniverse and the Future of PVL: Howdy everypony! Silver Eagle here, network director of the Ponyville Live media network. As some of you may have seen, this weekend I finished the process of dissolving Ponyville Live’s “parent” company, Bravely Blue Media LLC. After this announcement was posted, many wondered what would become of Ponyville Live itself, and whether the network would continue to operate in the future. Today I’m happy to announce that yes, the Ponyville Live network will stay online! From the public side, the same pony radio stations, podcasts, video streams and media that you love will stay just the same. To keep things running smoothly, there are some administrative changes, however, and I’d like to go over all of those so everyone’s on the same page. The first change is that I’ll be stepping down as the director of the Ponyville Live! network. I will be replaced in that capacity by Alex “Dusk” Howard, who has served as an administrator for the network and several of its stations for several years now. Make no mistake, it has been an immense honor and privilege to serve in the capacity of network director of PVL for three years now. I hope that in that time, the work of me and my team has made a positive impact on your life as a brony. First and foremost, though, my passion in this world is as a software developer, and the political position wasn’t one that I was ever really very good at. Over the years, my time in PVL has taken quite a toll on me both financially and psychologically, and in the interest of preserving the good memories, I think it’s time to move on from that role. Because I do still strongly believe that PVL is a useful service that means something to a lot of bronies out there, rather than just kill off the service entirely, I have opted instead to step down into the role of an everyday developer, and hand the keys over to Dusk. As for infrastructure, that’s where our friends at Poniverse come in. For many years now, our two networks have been close friends, sharing radio data and integrating their music service into our homepage. We also worked with them to modernize our MLP Music Archive, integrating its contents with the library. In the recent few months, they’ve taken great steps to make their own service’s code open and transparent, and I feel like this aligns very closely with Ponyville Live’s own goals. They have a large and active team of developers who can give the PVL project the love it deserves. Between now and the end of the year, we will start both of these transitions, moving the directorship to Dusk and the infrastructure to Poniverse. We will do everything possible to make sure that this transition is a seamless one, and that the web sites, apps and players that you know and love continue to work. I’m very excited about what the future holds for Ponyville Live. I’m both relieved and exceptionally grateful to have found a manager and team who were willing to take on the responsibility of maintaining the network and taking the bulk of the workload off my shoulders, allowing me to focus on what makes me the happiest of all, just building cool web sites for people. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who keeps supporting us after all these years. You, the audience, have given us all the reason in the world to keep this project going. I hope that Ponyville Live will long continue to be another little part of what makes being a brony something special. (tl;dr: Ponyville Live! stays online! I’m stepping down from network director to a regular developer role, Dusk is taking my place as director, and Poniverse is hosting the PVL infrastructure. What can I say? I like long posts.) ~ Silver Eagle View the full article
