    I think that Princess Celestia is Twilight's DAUGHTER. why i say this is because at the end of season 3 when Twilight becomes an alicorn princess, Celestia said "She's always been a Princess". And yet Twilight came from an ordinary background who was interested in magic. So my idea/ opinion is this Celesstia and Luna go back in time from the future to the time Equestria is in dark times where villans are ruling the land and that future Twilight died and told Celestia and Luna...

      But Celestia and Luna were born alicorns and lived in an alicorn tribe before Starswirl became Celestia's teacher. And they ruled Equestria for centuries before Twilight was even born. It makes for a good story though if you want to write it up. =)
