  1. Inclined to disagree, sorry. Antisemitism (an issue even today) doesn't compare to any "hate" some people may have for Christians. There can be no denying that a lot of Christians aren't exactly paragons of Christ's teachings; some people, whether from personal bad experiences or from their observations, assume that all Christians are the same. It grinds my gears, but they're acting from a position of misinformation, not malice. In cases where they've suffered at the hands of Christians (as many LGBT people have, for example), you can understand why they feel the way they do.
  2. I believe you misunderstand what "feminism" is. Correlation doesn't equal causation, as I'm sure an intelligent person like yourself can appreciate. Consider, for example, the fact that African-Americans are disproportionately incarcerated in our country (a hot button issue at the moment) - then consider the fact that African-Americans are also markedly more religious than other ethnic groups. http://www.pewforum.org/2009/01/30/a-religious-portrait-of-african-americans/
  3. I mean, even ignoring the whole pacifism option, it was pretty solid in terms of gender stuff and LGBT stuff, while still being (relatively) family friendly. Toby Fox knows what's up; that's the kind of enlightened creator I wish Alex Hirsch was. Like, as much as I love Gravity Falls, and as much as Alex Hirsch seems like a cool, liberal guy, he totally botched the portrayal of female characters and gender stereotypes and stuff. He did at least try to include as much in the way of LGBT themes as he could get away with with Disney, I guess. But man, Undertale, it does this kind of thing without even calling attention to it. Just a natural part of the game. My main criticism is that the flagship same-sex ship was two females (though they had those two nameless Royal Guards for a male couple) - This is a whole other thing, but I feel like the greater acceptance of female same-sex relationships is due to sexual objectification and such, you know? For things to feel like their motives are purer, I prefer to see male same-sex couples.
  4. So I got Undertale recently on Steam; I know the fad's long over but it was a really good game. I really liked it.
  5. Is it really true that no one is getting hurt, though?
  6. What! And you didn't mention the Jesus Fish? You disappoint me.
  7. I'll accept that answer. Texas Catholic, huh? Episcopalian here.
  8. So you're a Christian? What's the secret handshake?
  9. From what I've *heard* - and Nightmare Muffin is free to call my sources into question - they're obligated by the organization to proselytize. According to the Wikipedia article the Jehovah's Witnesses are pretty authoritarian and not much for free thinking and free speech. So your neighbors might not even have been doing it entirely by choice. It's a troubling group, if everything I've heard/read is to be believed.
  10. I know it's a questionable source; Wikipedia proper at least makes an effort to cite external sources, however. I'm also going off of personal testimony from those... two people. and a third person I met in real life. When you put it that way, it does seem questionable, but that's why I specified "if what it says is true".
  11. I used to be indifferent towards them, til I found a forum thread on another MLP fansite, created by someone who was born into the Jehovah's Witnesses. (Another Jehovah's Witness, who hadn't "left" the group yet, but no longer believed in them, also weighed in on the same thread.) http://www.roundstable.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=13411&hilit=cult&sid=b4100e0e622708f6c622fa825a416b03 I did some research of my own afterwards, on, uh... Wikipedia. But if what Wikipedia says is true, then there are some concerning things. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Jehovah's_Witnesses#Social_criticisms I recommend giving this a read.
  12. I'm not even sure what Nightmare Muffin means by praising them like gods. All they really do is say "Celestia" instead of "God" in common expressions - but if we take expanded universe as canon, the griffons use King Grover's name in those same expressions. It can be read as them using the monarch's name *because they have no gods*.
  13. We know from Hearth's Warming Eve that regular old unicorns used to raise the sun and moon. It's also unclear if Cadance is actually immortal; Meghan McCarthy did say Twilight wouldn't outlive her friends, and many fans have interpreted this to mean that Cadance and Twilight aren't immortal. (Remember, we did see "teen Cadance" in Twilight's flashbacks in A Canterlot Wedding. She has visibly aged.) I forgot to note - more on topic - that Mr. Waddle wears a clerical collar in the funeral scene in the CMC's song montage - the "dog collar" used by ministers of certain Christian denominations (typically Roman Catholic or Mainline Protestant denominations). He wears the same collar in at least two of his comic appearances - Waddle might be the local vicar or something of the sort. Also fits well with the old-timey Rockwellian feel of Ponyville. In those days Mainline Protestant denominations (the sort to wear the collar) were more prevalent than evangelical ones... Also something interesting that may or may not add to the discussion - An article on the hijab from Double Bind Magazine, a publication that "features predominantly female writers from a Muslim background". http://doublebindmagazine.com/the-truth-about-wearing-hijab
  14. So... "Mythical ape monster that has evaded all detection for decades" isn't a far fetched explanation?
  15. If you take comics as canon, he's far from useless.
  16. I've read all the G.M. Berrow chapter books and IDW comics and I don't remember this ever being discussed.
  17. Why, there's only one obvious answer: Prince Blueblood Day. Why not, if Trixie gets a day?
  18. Hmm, how do the horns of actual horned animals work?
  19. Water. It's what I drink most of the time (though I like a nice cold soda pop time to time as much as the next guy).
  20. I, uh. No one here noticed that the tweet is from a year ago? This was from that one day a year ago when Faust made a lot of blatantly jokey tweets. You guys remember that day, right? Equestria Daily covered it then. This was one of those tweets. So either Sethisto has amnesia and somehow didn't notice the tweet he was making a post about was a year old, or he was trying to stir some stuff up.
