  1. So, the Washouts, who display a flagrant disregard for safety, wear helmets. Whereas, the Wonder Bolts, who are sticklers for safety, don't wear helmets. Interesting...
  2. No, Lighting Dust didn't die. It is likely that she ended up in a full body, wing, and hoof cast, eating through a straw though.
  3. In the light of recent events, I stand corrected.
  4. When they have pony ears, and tails, and they "pony up", and float/fly around shooting weaponized rainbows, they have cutie marks. You can't see them because they are under their clothes. When they go back to being normal the marks fade away. Except for Sunset Shimmer. She always has a cutie mark because she is a pony from Equestria.
  5. WTF Hoity Toity? Are you a donkey? Why do you have donkey long ears even? If you aren't a donkey? Maybe Hoity Toity is a mule. That is the name for a horse (in this case pony) and donkey hybrid animal.
  6. While you do have a point about helping someone who says they don't want help, that is just way too heavy of an interpretation of the moral here (in my opinion). Try this metaphor. Last October, when hurricane Matthew wrecked through, the following day, the people that had chainsaws were out clearing roads, and helping neibors with fallen trees in their yards. People with large deep freezers full of meat, fearing it would go bad with no electricity, began barbecuing, and inviting everyone in the neiborhood, others would join bringing corn, and other food. I had a large tarp I use when camping, I let someone nail it to their roof to cover a hole until it could be properly repaired. Nobody asked for anyone else's help. Nobody needed to. That's just what neibors, and communities do after a natural disaster. Even in preparation for a potential area is expecting severe weather, or fires areas not affected, will send crews, and resources to help cities that are. Towards the end, Prince Rutherford, says something along the line of, friends that you don't have to ask to help are the best kind. (I inferred from this that a good friend will help without having to be asked. However, Prince Rutherford's rejection of Pinkies offer to help earlier in the episode seems to be a direct contradiction to that). Maybe it was just the "natural disaster" nature of the episode that leads my thinking that direction. Yes! I totally did too!!
  7. Let me see if I got this straight. Princess Twilights castle, and the cutie magic table/map thing happened when the mane six gave up the elements of harmony to save the tree of harmony because Tirek. And because of some intetense other stuff? (That SG had nothing to do with) Starlight glimmer gets cutie map missions now?W?T?F?!! Yes, we are all Twilight going "WTF?!" here. And it is a completely solid Celestia/ Luna episode that we have all been wanting! Switching ROYAL cutie marx , and it works...? Just wow! Oh Starlight Glimmer, how you make all the first four seasons irrelevant. A well written episode is appreciated, props to that! The Celestia/Luna part is FIM as it gets! I feel like I'm being forced to accept starlight g, and that pony still ain't my friend (all shady and control freakish)
  8. Since nobody ever answered this; the bit of dialogue you missed was, in my opinion, one of the funniest lines in the episode. The set-up is that the CMC are wondering why Big Mac is going to "Starlights old village" (apparently that is it's only name) so frequently. Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo answer two different things at the exact same time, making an unintelligible noise, then slightly later, but as not to get lost in the unintelligible noise, we hear Apple Bloom answer "..to get away from the smell". So basically Apple Bloom theorizes that Big Mac is making frequent, out of town trips to " get away from the smell". Then all the CMC fall down laughing, which implies that there is actually something at Sweet Apple Acres emmiting a smell that one would want to get away from. Granny Smiths "old pony" smell? AJ's farts? We will never know. About the name "Feather Bangs", and you aren't the only one that missed this. The hair that falls over a persons forehead is referred to as " bangs" the style of his hair is a hairstyle known as "feathered" (feathered hair was very popular in the nineteen seventies. Think about Farah Fawcett's hair). And that's why having "feather" in his name has nothing to do with being a pegasus, or not. And "bangs" isn't being used as an innuendo for sex. It is just, as has been a point beaten to death already, extremely lazy ass writing!
  9. Yes, going all the way back to the bison in "Over a Barrel". And he almost had the yaks until they learned that "music is a lie!" And if dragons had cutie marks the map probably would have sent him to Griffonstone.
  10. The love the writers are showing for Spike this season is unprecedented! From his interaction with Starlight in the season opener, to Gauntlet of Fire, and now this. He is indeed not Hum-Drum, the bumbling sidekick just thrown in as a punching bag for weak gags that fall short. The time he has spent as Twilights number one assistant is shining through. All the friendship lessons that Twilight has learns over the years has not gone un noticed by Spike. We are starting so see that all those lessons Twilight learned (the ones that qualified her to be a princess) Spike has also taken to heart. Princess Spike not withstanding, Spike may even be a better Princess of Friendship than Twilight. Especially considering Twilight in "No Second Prances". 2016 the year of the dragon!
  11. First "The Gift of Maud Pie", and now this! Rarity and Pinkie are proving to have really nice chemistry in the episodes they share. Also, nice to have an explanation for why we haven't seen the cutie map this season. I thought maybe it had gone the way of "the Journal of Friendship" did after season four. Pinkie sure knows good food when she smells it. (think the muffins in "Cutie Map part one, and the scones in "Lost Treasure of Griffonstone") She works in a bakery! But, she wasn't fashionable, or influential enough to draw in customers to the restaurant. Rarity, on the other hoof knows business. Her idea was to mimic the model of what she saw other successful businesses doing. Of course she was wrong in this instance. But, once she embraced the importance of uniqueness, she was able to not only use her influence to draw a crowd to the resturant, but was able to break the spell that Zesty had over Canterlot ponies! Even to the point of other restaurant owners refusing to conform to the standard that Zesty had set. I thought maybe she would have used her boutique to promote the restaurant, with maybe some samples, or bringing her employees lunch, and others smelling it and asking where the food came from. But watching her parade up and down the sidewalk wearing a sandwich board was amusing too. Oh yeah, and the song was good too! After a long track record of Rarity and AJ being a favorite pairing, their last two episodes together ("Made in Manehatten" and "AppleJacks Day Off") were not bad, but lacking that chemistry they had in earlier episodes. The Pinkie/ Rarity episodes seem to pick up where the AJ/ Rarity episodes left off.
  12. The episode opens with the conflict of fluttershys brother unable to support himself, and living at home. Most of the episode is spent reinforcing the fact that Zephyr is an unemployable douche. Rainbow Dash, and fluttershy sing at him, so he graduates, and gets a degree in "mane therapy". Episode ends with him still living with his parents. And conflict resolved. Also, where does Rainbow Dash have room to criticize anyone for taking naps, as we have frequently been shown her doing just that ( although, in all fairness, Dash probably was taking a well deserved rest after a hard half day of work)
  13. Most of the time when it gets to be Wednesday, and I haven't had the time to comment on an episode (busy as AJ), everything that I would have to comment on has already been said, so I end up not posting. But this hasn't come up yet in eleven pages, so I'll go ahead and mention it. How are we to believe that AJ has so many chores on the farm that she can't even get away for a few hours to go to the spa? How do those chores get done when she has to go to Manehatten with Rarity? Who does the chores when she goes camping? Someone must be able to feed the pigs when the entire Apple family goes on multi-day road trips. How is it that Sweet Apple Acres manages to not completely fall to ruin when AppleJack goes to a rodeo for a few days? My point is we have seen many examples through out all of the seasons where AJ isn't locked to the farm twenty-four/seven. She is gone so frequently, that there has to be some way that the farm is maintained when she isn't there (Big Mac likely). So the whole premise, that she can't find the time to get away for a few hours, just fails. A more believable premise would have been to show that it requires extra effort to delegate her chores to other members of the family (even making lists for all of them) to make sure everything that she does is covered. The family reacts like "yes, we know how it works when you are gone. We do this all the time" and AJ still being nervous that they might not do it exactly as she does, or she feels guilty for putting the extra work on them. This works continuity in to the story, as we realize this is what she goes through whenever she has to solve a friendship problem, or save Equestria. There's act one. Act two, with everything at Sweet Apple Acres handled, she heads off to the spa with Rarity for some much needed relaxation, and friend time. Upon arriving at the spa, she notices things that need to be fixed (not just the steam issue) being the practical, work horse that she is, she can't relax until she fixes these things. Rarity is unhappy that their spa day isn't going as she had hoped. While AJ is happy being helpful, and is truly happiest by staying busy. Act three. Surprisingly, they happen to run into Rainbow Dash at the spa (who would have thought Dash enjoyed the spa!) Dash realizes that while AJ is perfectly content fixing things, Rarity isn't. So Dash takes AJ aside and tells AJ something like "I get that you are happiest when you stay busy, I can hardly stand being still myself" but this was a chance for you and Rarity to spend some time together, pointing out that Rarity wasn't enjoying the spa time. Then Dash is like, Look, if I can do this, so can you. Just give it a try. AJ somewhat reluctantly, starts to enjoy it. Once finally in relax mode Dash goes to leave, and AJ is like where are you going? Dash says she has too much stuff to do rto be sitting around the spa all day, besides, this was supposed to be a day for AJ, and Rarity to spend time together. Rarity begins to start some lighthearted gossiping with AJ, they both are laughing. End. Totally different moral than the one presented, and maybe a rehash of the value of stopping and taking the time to smell the roses, or in this case, spending time with a friend. Still not a super exciting, typical slice of life style episode, but it negates the primary problem with the episode, which is that despite us having seen AJ, on many occasions, being able to get away from the farm, she suddenly can't, just for this one episode.
  14. Vinyl has been showing up on the show a lot recently. I hope this means more merch!
  15. "Instant classic" is the first description that comes to my mind. The animation, and songs were exquisite. On these forums people frequently ask what a good episode to show someone who is not a MLP fan would be, to showcase what makes this show special to us. I think this episode fits that, as everyone is familiar with the source material. The only thing that could have made this any more perfect, would have been if it was an hour long special, at a more appropriate time of the year. P.S. I would like to add that as a non-christian, that dose'nt celebrate Christmas, I have always appreciated the way they have presented Hearths Warming as a holiday that encompasses the spirit of what any culture that celebrates a holiday near the winter solstice is truly about. (Earth pony, Unicorn, Pegasi anyone?)
  16. Best Spike episode ever! Almost makes up for "Princess Spike" (...almost)
  17. In "Stare Master" she is shown to have a chicken coop, so she might sell eggs.
  18. Good catch! I mistakenly wrote the number of responses to the topic instead of the number of votes. Corrected now. Thank you!
  19. I was feeling kind of Twilight Sparkley, and decided to compile some numbers for no particular reason. Not sure this will invoke much discussion, but some might find it interesting. So, according to the polls in season discussion, here's what you all thought about season five: Episodes one and two- "the cutie map" 423 of us voted. The results are: Hated it- 2, Didn't like it- 6, Meh- 25, Liked it- 146, Loved it- 243. Ep. Twenty-two "What About Discord?" 165 votes Hated it-10, Didn't like it- 20, Meh- 44, Liked it- 62, Loved it- 29 Ep. Twenty-three "Hoofeilds and Mc Colts" 143 votes Hated it- 4, Didn't like it- 9, Meh- 49, Liked it- 56, Loved it- 25 Ep. Twenty-four "Mane Attraction" 166 votes Hated it- 2, Didn't like it- 0, Meh- 13, Liked it- 33, Loved it- 118 Eps. Twenty-five and twenty-six "Cutie Re-Marked" 256 votes Hated it- 7, Didn't like it- 6, Meh- 19, Liked it- 49, Loved it- 175 So the premiere and "Slice of Life" tied for the polls with the most traffic. "Slice of Life" also had the most Loved it votes with 307, just barely beating "Crusaders of the Lost Mark" which had 306. Ironically, "Slice of Life" was also the episode with the most hated it votes at eighteen. The second most hated is "Tanks for the Memories" with thirteen hatred it voted. "Princess Spike" and "What About Discord" tie for third, each with ten hated it votes. Episodes that nobody voted that they hated: "Bloom and Gloom", "Lost Treasure of Griffonstone", "Amending Fences", "The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows", "Rarity Investigates", and "Scaremaster". Honorable mention to, "Make New Friends but Keep Discord", which only got one hated it vote. No surprise that "Princess Spike" got the least loved it votes, with only eighteen. Followed by "Appleoosa's Most Wanted" with twenty-four loved it votes, and "Hoofeilds and McColts" with twenty-five loved it votes. "Made in Manehatten" and "Scaremaster" had the least traffic with only a hundred and twenty-three and a hundred and twenty-six people caring enough to vote. There you have it, just like Apple Jack, the numbers don't lie. On the other hoof, I may have muddied up the facts with fancy mathematics. Any thoughts?
  20. Yes, it did. It was "Let the Rainbow Remind you". One of the best songs in the series, in my opinion.
  21. What a great way to end a great season! I only have one very minor not to pick, and that is that I was hoping the episode would address the various sightings of Starlight Glimmer that they teased us with throughout the season. It seems like that should have gone somewhere.
