  1. I don't want to believe that the content of the diary on TV is the same as in the book, because it's very rare, that i like the expanded universe like comics and books of a franchise.

Cool,I can see that. I tried a couple of comics and found that the way the universe is expanded upon didn't do much for me. I have only read Equestria Girls chapter books (which is kinda odd now that I think about it) "Through the Mirror" I found to be meh... But ok. "Sunset Shimmers Time to Shine" I really like. That's why I made this thread. I wouldn't cite anything from either one of those books, to try to answer somebody's question about the show. But what I am saying is that I don't think that the Journal of the Two Sisters falls into the same category as side-canon works. I have no reason to believe, after having read it, that the book called "the Journal of the Two Sisters" that I purchased at Books-a-Million does not contain the same words as the book by the same name that Twilight reads in the show.

  2. Well purple being my favorite color, and stars being my favorite shape, I have to go with Aria. Plus girls that wear their hair in pigtails. ...um yeah. I also like the corset under the torn off sleeve jean jacket (her jacket reminds me of Nelson Muntzs jacket). I like her accessories, although I think her and Sonata should trade wrist accessories. The spiked wrist bands would make her so badass, she would be the leader of the Dazzlings.

  3. Great topic. I want a Rainbow Rocks sequel with a return of the Dazzlings too. The way they were defeated begs for more story, and they were great characters. Here's how it goes down; Adagio steals the book that Sunset uses to communicate with Twi. She corosponds with Twi as if she is Sunset. She tells Twi that she would like to visit Equestria so that Twilight opens the portal. When the portal is open the Sirens slip into Equestria to steal some magic artifact that will give them power (Sort of like Sunset Shimmer did in the first movie) then they return to EG world. But instead of using their awesome singing power to win a high school battle of the bands, they become international, top selling pop stars (...with some kind of evil hidden agenda). It's up to the Rainbooms to expose them ( and the evil poly), but how can a high school garage band even compete with top tier rock stars? How will the protagonist underdogs prevail? (Hint, it has something to do with friendship)

Yeah, I'd go see that movie!

  4. You must be a doctor, because that was the most hypocritical thing I have ever read on this site, and I make regular ventures to the debate pit.

Equestria Girls and the comics are very much canon with the show. The creators have even said so on multiple occassions that the IDW comics are canon, they are just 'less' canon than the show.

I think this is the most confrontational anyone has ever been while agreeing with me. Let the doctor fix that for you. "But unlike the IDW comics or Equestria Girls which are not MAIN canon..." Feel better now? (or should I edit that in the original post?)

This dose'nt change anything about my statements in the original post. So, if my symantics in the original post were not clear, I still contend that the Journal of the Two Sisters should be considered part of the main canon ( for all the same reasons I stated in the OP), as opposed to being side canon, like the comics or movies (for the same reasons).

  5. Often, when members of this forum ask questions about Celestia, Luna, or Starswirl the Bearded, I will use information that I have from having read "The Journal of the Two Sisters" by Amy Keating Rodgers to answer the question. I have seen other users cite the Journal to answer questions also. It seems that whenever the Journal of the Two Sisters is used to answer a question, inevitably someone will post a reply that the Journal is not canon, and therefore using it as an explanation is invalid.

I contend that The Journal of the Two Sisters IS canon. Here's why : the journal isn't just mentioned in passing in the show, Twilight Sparkle, the mane character of the show, actually studied the book! And whenever she quotes something from the book to her friends, those words are actually in the book. It's like whoever reads the book is reading exactly what Twilight read in the show.

Things from the book manifest in the show. In the book, Luna and Celestia discuss the design of the Castle of the Two Sisters in detail, in the episode "Castle-maneia", all those details are shown. Hall of hooves, Organ to the outside, the tapestries, etc. it's all in the book.

When I cite the Journal in response to a question, I assume that the member asking the question hasn't read the book, and I hope that they will be interested in reading it, as it has some great insight into Luna and Celestia, and how stuff works in Equestria. It is definitely a valuable companion piece to the show. But unlike the IDW comics, or Equestria Girls which are not canon, because nothing in them has any effect on the show, the Journal of the Two Sisters does affect the show.

So what do you think, is it just a great companion piece, or is it canon?

  6. No, it's so the episodes can be spread out over the year. Companies make more money from advertisements on new episodes, so the new episodes are being spread out so that revenue flow is steadier.

Ummm kinda, actually it is because the fall ratings determine advertising rates for the rest of the year. Discovery Family is holding new episodes of their HIGHEST RATED show until then, so that they can, you know, make money (which keeps the show on the air). It's like this, when the ratings numbers come in (the ratings numbers are an account of how many people watch the show on TV, the number of people who watch the show by stealing it off the internet don't count for ratings!) Then Discovery Family rakes those numbers to that advertisers and says "look, one million people watched this show." And then the advertisers say "WOW WE! That's a lot of people!! I will give you five dollars for every person that watches that show if you let me advertise my crap when that show is on." And then Discovery Family says "cool, that's like five million dollars! Now we can pay DHX to make more episodes" And then we all say "YAY! More episodes!"

  7. Yep, liquid pride all over the place from Magical Mystery Cure, and season four finale as well. Then there's these; Tanks For the Memories, Trade Ya, Hurricane Fluttershy, Sleepless in Ponyville, A Friend in Deed, just to name a few off the top of my head. This usually happens in the privacy of my home, I'm really selective about who I watch certain episodes with. Then there is Rainbow Rocks, I saw it in a theatre, let's just say I'm really glad it was dark and that there weren't too many other people there. Fortunately, I had the whole epilogue and the end credits song (Shine Like Rainbows!) To dry out before the lights came on.

  8. I think the single biggest flaw with this whole theory is the source material. For the sake of argument, let's ignore that over six thousand years, and multiple translations, much of what was originally written has been lost or misinterpreted ( on purpose, to comply with an agenda), that alone nullifies a lot of the source material you cite.

So the pilot episode was written by people who were enslaved by the Egyptians. They hated the Egyptians so much they cut pieces of their dicks off, the stories they told weren't unbiased history. They were trying to vilify the Egyptians to justify, and enable their religious agenda ( in this case monotheism vs. polytheism).

Then, skipping over all the filler episodes, including the part where it gets super bizzaro, and they bring in zombies (this is where they really jumped the shark), you start bringing in quotes from the series finale episode. This was written after the series got cancelled, and the fans wanted closure, so they came up with this episode. Theologians say that revelations was written as a criticism of the early Catholic church, and particularly the pope, using symbolism to veil what, if explicitly written would get you killed. This may be true, I happen to think that the author was having severe hallucinations, either from fever or from ingested hallucinogenic plants. At the very least someone suffering from dementia. These hallucinations were interpreted as a prophecy because the author was superstitious like that. Either way it's a bat shit crazy story, and a befitting series finale.

As for the rest, that dose'nt cite outdated, misinterpreted, biased, superstitious ramblings, I think that most (although, by far not all) modern governments we have today have enough checks and balances to keep them from becoming god analogous. As for the leaders of these governments, I think that while it does take at least some meglomanicial tendencies in the ego of the people that choose to run for the political office of power, I don't think that they fancy themselves to be of god status.

As for the use of Egyptian and Freemasonry symbols in modern times, in ancient times masons that could build the monuments and achieve what they did, had the knowledge and power far above the average citizens (kind of how we regard astrophysicists today) so when the symbols of Freemasonry are used it is a testament to a society's commitment to science, knowledge, and progress. Egypt was one of humanities earliest organized civilizations that we have a written recording of it's history. When Egyptian symbolism is used it is a callback to humanities early origins of organized civilization.

  9. Discord dressed as Hunter S Thompson, Discord re-creating a scene from "Flashdance", Discord imitating eighties era stand up comedians ,Jerry Seinfeld, Gallagher, and Rodney Dangerfield. But other than Discord, I think a lot of the episode titles. Of course "Magical Mystery Cure" is a reference to the Beatles song/album Magical Mystery Tour. There is also; "Lesson Zero" (Less than Zero- eighties movie), "Secret of my Excess" (Secret of my Sucess- also an eighties movie), "Sleepless in Ponyville" (Sleepless in Seattle), "Rarity Takes Manehatten" (Jason Takes Manhattan- eighth Friday the Thirteenth sequel), "Filling Vanilli" (Milli Vanilli -early nineties "singing" group that was exposed to be lip syncing), "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils" (For Whom the Bell Tolls - classic Hemingway book/ Metallica song). Other titles are just a play on words or expressions that children wouldn't know. This season hasn't been so much with the titles, but still plenty of adult references. The Shining & Dumb and Dumber have been mentioned, but there was a Fargo reference in "Princess Spike". The classic five stages of grief from "Tanks for the Memories" is probably over the heads of the target audience. Oh, I forgot, "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep" that title is a reference to the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and the group dream was from the movie Inception, and parts of the episode could be seen as a reference to Nightmare on Elm Street three: Dream Warriors.

  10. It is dubbed, like some anime.  Some purists would prefer subbed with the original sounds, but Hasbro won't have any part of it.

Damn, it took a hundred posts to get the best response.

  11. Not sure if I dislike her. It's more like she's my second favorite pony, after a five way tie for best pony. I think my biggest problem with her is that being shy dose'nt mean you are a pussy. I'm not particularly outgoing, partially due to social anxiety, but that dose'nt mean I'm weak, or scared. A leaf touched me "EEEK!" I once lost a tug-o-war to butterflies. Bullshit! Remember in Wonderbolt Academy when the balloon that the remane five fort caught in the tornado and flung ponies everywhere, and they had to be rescued by some wonderbolts, and the one that caught her looked at her and realized she was a pegasi, and looked at her like WTF! Yeah, that's kinda how I feel about her. Her reluctance to help her friends kind of annoys me too. I did like her in "Hurricane Fluttershy" and "Keep kind and Flutter On" and I have to agree with Jeric, that they have been better in season five.
