Concerned Bystander

Just finished watching The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance on Neflix for the second time.

I was extremely apprehensive when this series was announced, I wasn't sure they'd be able to pull off a decent prequel series in the current entertainment climate which has been riddled with poor remakes, pointless reboots and unnecessary sequels.

It seems my apprehension was unfounded.  The series is absolutely amazing, they have managed to stay true to the tone of the original and have expanded on the world in a way that feels natural and extremely satisfying, not least because they have chosen to film the entire thing with puppets and only used CGI for augmentation where it was appropriate to do so.

The characters from the original have been faithfully reproduced with the voice actors doing sterling work recreating the voice and manner of characters such as Aughra and the Chamberlain.  And the new characters Like Rian, Hup, Brea and especially Deet are immediately likeable and feel very much a part of the world I recognise from the film.

The dark character of the film is not only very much present, but much deeper too.  This series doesn't pull its punches, it has the gravitas to engage older viewers while being whimsical enough to appeal to the younger as well.

If you have Netflix and you haven't watched it yet, do yourself a favour and get right onto it, you'll be glad you did.
