  1. @@Aurora Lights, Rhetoric frowned "All the living? I was thinking maybe like five. No offense but I'm not a hero, and maybe you feel it's your duty but realistically we'd be lucky to find a few trustworthy people in that crap hole" he pointed deeper into the city "So look we better come to an agreement before we go risking life and limb against a ever growing horde of mindless animals that seem to only want to eat us"
  2. @@Aurora Lights, Rhetoric was going to say something but the man who introduced himself as Draco had hopped out of the car. "Wai-" he cut himself off. No point in trying to argue now, might as well just roll with the new guy, keep an eye on him and hope for the best. If he really was part of the national guard, and didn't just loot the armor off of a corpse then his combat skills would come in handy. Of course Rhetoric planned on finding a few more people and high tailing it out of the city but for now, a cool shot was a nice addition. So in the mean time Rhetoric stuck his head of the driver window "so... Do you have any plans there Sarg?"
  3. @@Aurora Lights, As Rhetoric drove away from the zombies, he tightened his grip on the steering wheel, keeping his eyes on the sometimes hazardous road. It was a few minutes before he spoke to his new passenger, and before he did, he sighed lightly "Look, lets get this straight, we're both probably just two guys trying to survive the Zombie invasion right? Right, but here's the problem, I have no clue who you are and frankly words mean jack-crap right now. So that leaves us with a mighty be trust issue..." He pulled over and turned the car off at an abandoned gas station "Personally I would rather have a friend then a enemy, but I also don't want to be shot in the back. So until we come to some sort of remedy I suggest you start offering up some idea's to build up our trust"
  4. @@Aurora Lights, Rhetoric blinked once, then twice. Over the soft sound of his music and the hard faint gurgle of zombies he swore he could hear the tell tall signs of a human voice. Slowing his car down he scanned the area and lo and behold there was indeed a human, and one seeming to ask for help. Not wasting the opportunity, Rhetoric hit the gas and pulled up next to the stranger and pushed open the passenger side door, his old hunting rifle now in hand pointed at the stranger "Alright, you have about 5 seconds to decide to drop your weapons in the cab and hop in or get eaten by Zombies, and sudden movements and I won't be responsible for my panic"
  5. @@DwhitetheGamer,@, When Copper retorted that he was not indeed a special snowflake, Rhetoric took in a breath of anger, close to the point of letting out years of pent of agression on this practical stranger. Yet, there were so many logical reasons to not to, he withdrew with a heavy sigh, and saved his diatribe for a later time, perhaps around a camp fire, or on his death bed which ever came first. In the mean time he followed the others to the stone slab and the swords around it, hearing Copper's comment. "A place to commemorate the fallen I would imagine.... For one such as you Madam Mori I would think a spot like this would have great meaning to you. I on the other hand, must admit, cannot not add much to the already honored spot. So I will do the only thing I know how to honor the dead and keep on living." he gave a quick silent bow and took a deep breath "Pay your respects how you see fit, the cave awaits, and seeing how we have sort of a party now , I would like to have camp within the cave before night fall, I shudder to think what the cold night is like exposed to the elements here" with that he sat down waiting for his companions, taking out his journal from his heavy saddle bag and began to write a few things.
  6. @@J.R., Rhetoric winced at the scream, as he heard it over his music. It almost was as bad as the blood he was trying to clean off his windshield, it slowing washing away in sickly drops. "Welcome to to apocalypse Mr Rash..." he groaned in exhaustion, keeping his foot on the gas lightly, rolling into the city slowly. His goal was simple, find some people he could trust, build himself a new family and get the hell out of dodge, maybe even find a large settlement of survivors, and if that failed... Maybe just a cabin in the woods somewhere, where he could be safe from the mindless shamblers.
  7. @@J.R., Rhetoric wanted to ignore the walking dead that he was staring at on the road, but realistically, he would draw attention to himself and if he didn't take care of the few zombies on the road now, he would probably have to deal with a lot of them later. "Alright then fine..." he sighed to himself, almost standing up in the drivers seat to see how the van's snow plow was doing "Good enough." taking a deep breath he turned his stereo up, the most inappropriate songs on. https://youtu.be/WGjvgvqOx7c Revving the van a little, he did one last thing before plowing over a few zombies, he turned on the windshield wipers for good measure
  8. @@DwhitetheGamer,@, Rhetoric looked over at Copper having heard his name "Copper... Hmmm Copper Strikes, where have I heard that name before" the stallion mused, then it struck him "...Your, your that stallion that trained with Celestia, I read about you!" Rhetoric's face of recognition soon turned to a scowl "...Did the Princess send you here?" he grumbled "Never-mind, I'm sure I'll read about it later anyway" it was obvious that Rhetoric was not pleased to have a personal prodigy of the Princess traveling with him "But before we go any further, I want to make myself personally clear, I don't want the help of some special snow flake, I'm climbing this mountain and if I live or die is my business..." he sighed and kept going "Now that's out of the way, I am going to reconvene with Madam Mori, Mr Strikes, I do not know what you plan on doing but I regret to say I will not be waiting for you" and like that he trotted up to Mori "Madam, you stopped, did you see something?"
  9. Rhetoric gripped his families truck's wheel, in stress. He had spent all of last night packing his families farm into the largish van and now he was about to leave the farm. He didn't want to but it wasn't safe here anymore, last night proved that enough. Just thinking about it nearly brought him to tears again "It's ok Rhetoric.... the whole world has lost someone... you just gotta put your foot on the gas and find some more people, come on old chap, don't want to Zombies to getcha" With a heavy sigh he pushed the gas pedal and brought the van out of the decaying farm, going towards the city in hopes to find more survivors, and to forget those he knew who hadn't survived.
  10. @,@@DwhitetheGamer, The determined earth pony pulled his fur coat around him tighter "Its now or never isn't it?... Well I'm with you, I can't speak for this... um our new companion" he took a quick look at the other earth pony, who Rhetoric doubted was anything at all like himself He still wasn't sure what he thought about the interloper, at the moment he was a tad uncomfortable with him... but it would be unfair to judge prematurely "I apologize I never caught your name, Mr...?"
  11. @,@@DwhitetheGamer, Rhetoric hadn't exactly made that far ahead of either of them and was still very much in ear shot. Missing the tail end of Copper's... prayer? Yes that was the proper word. Regardless Rhetoric decided to wait, at least for Mori to finish talking to the stranger and for her to catch up, however he had indeed over heard the blue stallions remark on "watching him" which he had a few choice words to say about "...I am a grown stallion, I would prefer to be treated like one..." he said more to himself then anything but if the stranger heard then so be it
  12. @@DwhitetheGamer, @, Rhetoric turned looking rather confused. "Um hello?" when he turned full circle he saw the source of the voice and the brown earth pony blinked "I suppose your talking to us yes?" He was still confused and forced himself to continue his questioning "Well sir, I thank you for your concern but you should know I was planning on walking up by myself, and Madam Mori over here I think was going to do the same. For better or worse I'm heading up." he nodded to the blue stallion in gratitude "Madam Mori I shall continue onward, you're still come welcome to fallow of course" he smiled and continued to move onward
  13. @, Rhetoric burst out laughing "Oh sorry, pardon me.... Its not everyday some one actually asks to walk with me, frankly I'd be a fool to say no to both you and your interesting counterpart, even if she is a tad rude, but I guess if I were dead I'd be a bit mouthy too." he chuckled "So yes, yes please by all means come along, join in the escapade... I dare say if you do stop to console the spirits of this spire, if there are indeed any I may be a hinderance to you." he warned "I have been known to be a bit of a trouble maker" he relayed as they made the beginning part of the mountain with ease
  14. @, Despite the large amount of information streaming at Rhetoric, his large amount of travel had prepared him for the unexpected and this sort of thing, while certainly uncommon, wasn't too hard to swallow, and the stallion composed himself to talk to two radically different personalities, at least that was the impression he got "Well ma'am, or rather Madams, I suppose I should introduce myself, my name is Rhetoric Rash, although feel free to call me whatever you'd like." he smiled "As for your" he looked at the ghostly mane "Um question. Your acquisition is correct, I am ill prepared for the journey before me, er us. But I' m here for preciously that reason, all too often the legends are folks of "extraordinary"stature, present company included. I mean no offense by this, I merely wish to state, that the common person needs a representive... and for better of worse I hope to try to supply." he chuckled "Rather fool hardy isn't it? But I figure if I give this mountain no reason to kill me, my chances improve by the second, and who knows I could get lucky." he sighed "So I hope that answer's your question to some extent Baroness" he spoke to the spirit "and clears a few things up for you ma'am" he nodded to the mare herself
  15. @, Rhetoric blinked and tried to comprehend what was going on... to little avail "Look Ma'am I'm pretty sure I'm suppose to be insulted or off put or something, but I'm too confused for any of that. So why don't you start from the beginning, eh? Why am I hearing two voices when theirs obviously only one mare... I would have to guess there's magical hijinks involved, that or your quiet the amazing ventriloquist" Rhetoric didn't seem put off, just confused, perhaps a bit intrigued.
  16. @, Rhetoric was deep in thought, taking one last introspective before he committed himself to such a dangerous journey. If it was as bad as it was made out to be, then there was no logical reason why he would be forcing himself up such a montain, when rather unexpectedly his train of thought was derailed. "Oh! What?..." the stallion turned around "Hmmm?" he cleaned his ears for a second "What was that I could have sworn I heard two of you" Rhetoric looked around and behind the mare "Or is there something I'm missing?... er I'm sorry I think you asked a question yes?" he was obviouslya tad confused and his weak smile only furthered the fact
  17. Rhetoric chuckled, not at the griffon, more at himself if anything "There's no shame in that, the world can be a pretty scary place, but I've found if you give it no reason to scare you it tends to leave you alone." he chuckled again "Well I must be off, if I wait any longer I'll have wise second thoughts. You know, I'm climbing that mountain for folks like you... for folks like us. So have heart, because I don't know if I can" he chuckled one last time, bowed the the griffon and trotted outside beginning his journey. It didn't take him long to find the proper path, being small hamlet and all, and before he knew it the buildings disappeared and the lone stallion was slowly making his way to the moutian "...Here goes nothing..."
  18. "Well, good sir, I plan on approaching this mountain in a whole new light. Thank you for the warning Who knows, I may think better of it and come down half way if I'm able, but I must try, there is much more then my own glory at stake here I believe so if you'd be so kind to lead me to the cave my journey can begin" Rhetoric took the warning to heart, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't nervous, but somehow he still has his resolve about him and if he went soon he knew he could start his quest and once he started he doubted he'd be able to stop
  19. Rhetoric laughed but as he saw the griffon was serious he sobered "Oh... well thank you kindly, but I've made up my mind, and I'm going on up for better or worse. If i may ask, why are you so concered with me? Do I appear to be the type wh can't handle the mountain? I mean, I won't be offended, because I'm not, I'm just curious really"
  20. Rhetoric blinked and smiled "This is above and beyond what I could hope for... if I do come down alive, indeed if I come down at all, I'll make sure to do my best to repay you kind sir." he equipped the various items, feeling much more prepared then the bare bones pony he was before "so I suppose I should start my journey now" he sighed and chuckled "I take it theres an obvious trail up the mountain?"
  21. Rhetoric laughed "Good sir, I don't think so, I've made my mind and frankly I would prefer not to know everything about the moutain... But thank you kind sir, I appreciate the concern though. However I am determined to go up... so I still must inquire about that hatchet sir" Rhetoric pulled over the jacket onto his frame and smiled
  22. Rhetoric smiled broadly "Why thank you sir, hopefully you should have a chord of wood before the sun falls" he trotted outside and saw the small pile of logs that needed to be split and with a snort of happiness picked up the near by axe and began to spilt the wood. Such chores were tedious and boring and sweat inducing but considering it was a part of his past life and he prided himself on a job well done, the wood was indeed split and stacked within a timely manner, surprisingly before the day was done. When he entered the inn once more, the scholary pony was dripping with sweat and a smile "That should cover for the week more or less. Um before I leave, do you know if there's anyone here willing to trade an old hatchet for some work? I could use anything I can get you see"
  23. Rhetoric laughed "you need the money way more then I do, so sounds like a deal to me." he would wait for the transaction to occur and with a thankful bow and one last goodbye to the kind folks trotted outside and searched for the Inn. The small settlement was easy enough to navigate so finding the cozy looking inn was simple. Plodding in he trotted up to main desk "Excuse me I was told I could acquire a jacket here? I don't have any money to pay you, but perhaps I could split some wood, or do some work for you in exchange?" he smiled warmly, hoping to convoy the idea that he indeed worked for most of the things he had in life anyway
  24. Rhetoric smiled at the older griffon "Thank you ever so kindly sir, if I manage to make it back down alive I promise to share my story with you." he gave a slightly bow and turned to the bartender and out turned his saddle bag dumping a measly 30 bits onto the table "...I hope you take bits here Miss, its all I got, unless of course your willing to barter"
  25. Rhetoric finished his stout and placed the mug down, deep in thought with the old griffon's words. "A legend you say? Hmmmm, I suppose most who treck up the moutain are warriors, fighters of skill yes?" he mused bit more and poked his head into his worn saddle bag "Tell me, wise story teller, where I could buy rations and a warm coat for this journey, I believe it's time for the moutain to meet a new type of visitor" he stood up from the bar, looking rather determined about the ordeal, was it spur of the moment? Certainly. Did he care? Certainly not.
