      I did it for a while, but doing so unsynced a bunch of my games, so I started it back up, and just started pruning my "friends."

      That is what I was thinking, but many of the ones that I want gone are my husbands family... Is that harsh? I guess I can just unfollow like everyone except a select few.

      You can unfollow them all. They don't necessarily know you unfollow them. Unfriending them will remove them from your friends, unfollowing them just stops their crap from spamming your feed.
