      (but the second looks smoother, and as a result I'd suggest smoothing out the sides and making the first one not as boxy)

      That looks better than the first now, yes. While I used to like straight box images like the former, the latter provides a better look for the eyes--another good alternative would be a border on the outside. I like the third link, now, more than the first two--so yeah that's sort of what I was lookin' for. :]
