  You're not gonna cover that gap without practice right? So make lots of what you think is mediocre art. Learn to see all the flaws and every place where it just looks funny. Study how to correct those issues. Look though lots of other art. Think about why you like it, and practice getting it into your art. With time you'll connect the dots and before you realize it you'll be making the kind of art other people study when they're get started. :3
