Cat really are good in that kind of situation, unlike dogs who are more useful in the action itself, cats are small and quiet so they are a good way to warm one's heart, without breaking you cover or such disturbance  

Not to say dogs are bad but really when you need to stay sharp, what is worse, having creature size of torso on you or having one that is size of your head. 

It is true. Animals really can help in stress situations for example during war.  I've read that Russian tanks crews had a lot of animals in their vehicles. Even punishments couldn't stop it.

But it's also sad how some animals are treated during wartime, Vietnam for instance. Many US Soldiers used to practice shooting at Water Buffalo's, most the time checking to see if their weapons did the business, pointless and worthless killing of innocent domestic animals that probably helped a poor starving family during wartime a lot. But you do get the moments like in the Ukraine conflict, where I seen on both sides, Ukraine and Pro-Russian Rebels playing with cats.
