I always thought a Bastard was an avian of the family Otididae with brown plumage streaked with black on the back and a white chest that spends its time hiding in the grain fields and steppes of eastern Europe, North Africa, and Spain ... also found during the winter months in Australia... India... and southern....

@Catsle @ScruffyTheStallion Aye, that's usually how a bastard comes to be, but legally speaking, a bastard is a male child (or more specifically, a possible heir) of a male parent who has been disowned or written out from the possibility of succeeding the father.
