I'm having the exact same problem---I replaced with Wii's broken disk drive with one I bought off of ebay, and then things went bad:
First time I started my Wii after replacing the disk drive: it wouldn't accept discs or even react to them at all. But at least I could play my many many virtual console titles!
Switching my Wii off and starting it up again: it took discs in and instantly crashed after taking them in. Even worse: it wouldn't play any virtual console titles! It just gave me a completely black screen!
The only advice I've gotten is that this is probably a problem with my disk drive...which means I bought a dud replacement :/ at some point I know I need to put the older disk drive back in to see if that'll let me at least play my virtual console titles!
