I dont know if a philosophical proverb equates to having a personal discussion with someone that is condescending to you "foolishly".

Only in so far as the point I was making prior,

that if someone insults you, let it be, and allow the other person to prove the insult true only of themselves

I think circumstances may change your perspective if its someone you care about, or if its someone you want to be friends with.. i dont wish bad things on people, so i wouldnt know about that
