  1. Well yes, but even then, a 'Jack' is the name for the flag flown at a ship's head; the one at the rear is called an ensign. But to be honest, as a Brit, it never really bugged me when people call it the Union Jack. I'm sure others would disagree though haha.
  2. #reignitingtheconvo For me it's got to be the Canadian Red Ensign - it just exudes class and looks beautiful when flying. Not only does it contain the already-flawless Union Flag in its canton, but the shield denotes the proud heritage of its settlers. Many Canadians still fly this flag out of protest against the Maple Leaf, considering this to be their true flag - and I couldn't agree more. It represents a country proud of its heritage and looks amazing!

  4. Do you ever have one of those dreams where everything in it seems so real, and then wake up feeling like :baconmane: ??

Damn O.o only pony dream i ever had is that applejack was angry at her sister and then had 100 sisters.. no idea why xD

  5. I wasn't sure how to feel about this one...my initial reaction was that they did a good job of negotiating the scenario of lying to avoid hurting a friend's feelings (an age-old cliché), but then I stood back and thought about the whole episode. As some of you have pointed out, it was a bit repetitive seeing RD trying to fool Pinkie for essentially the entire episode, even if it did lend itself to some funny slapstick. It just seems wrong to have a pony like Rainbow immediately dispose of the pies that Pinkie had made - because it felt so insensitive, even for a sometimes-cocky pony like RD. I'm not sure that she was trying to be sweet in her actions for Pinkie, because she almost seems like she enjoys coming up with the ridiculous ways to make them disappear. Perhaps she doesn't; who knows what to believe now haha. She's my favourite character and she came across in a bad light in this episode; the attempt to justify her actions so as not to hurt her friend has been done before (see Honest Apple for one) and, even if it can be argued that it's morally justifiable, it leaves a sour taste because it's basically saying dishonesty is okay if it's well-intentioned. Would've been funny to see, for an alternate ending, Rainbow tries a bite of the 'concrete' pie to even things out, and of course has to see a doctor, learning the lesson that lying will come back to haunt you eventually. Still, I always like seeing Rainbow and Pinkie together, very cute!
  6. I believe today marks the 7th birthday of MLP:FiM so I extend a very happy birthday wish to the shoe that's brought us all such joy!

  7. :( It's noticeable that the Mane Six are appearing altogether less and less in each episode (It Isn't the Mane Thing About You was a cute recent exception), and it's presumably because the writers think that their story arcs have been pretty much completed.  If so, that saddens me because a lot of shows run for many years with character development ever improving; thus the show appears to be coming to an end, as far as the Mane 6 are concerned.  What do you think?

  8. I just watched this one again, and I don't know what the hell I was on about earlier; the Wonderbolts are fine... still one of my favourite episodes. Rainbow's Element of Loyalty rang true with her parents in the end, which is why her outburst was so out-of-character, and she realised that herself minutes later. Cute how the protected little sis (Scootaloo) became the advisor. With the Mane Six appearing less and less in each episode (It Isn't the Mane Thing About You was a cute recent one), it seemed at times like their story arcs were pretty much completed - with that in mind, it was so nice to see a whole new aspect of Rainbow's character development.
  9. I suspect that Spitfire is a retired (or still serving) air force captain - her badges in Wonderbolts Academy reveal her rank - and is designated by the AF to oversee training of the cadets. Thus, she adopts a militaristic approach to training since it's what she knows and has been exposed to. The Wonderbolts themselves are most likely a flight demonstration squadron, like the Blue Angels, that can be called upon in times of war due to the military training they underwent as cadets. The topic of an Equestrian military has been a clear sidenote in this chat, but I'm still quite keen to know how having an Equestrian Air Force would assist in a battle - like, what do they do to each other up in the sky; they're not armed... Curious to know what you guys think?
  10. So having just watched The Perfect Pear, it's not really any clearer what exactly happened to them. Whilst it's almost certain they died sadly, it's deliberately avoided by the writers, who believe that such a tragic premise would not have been allowed on the show. Good episode though
  11. What's happened to Season 7?  The release dates aren't matching up and we haven't seen an episode since 'Not Asking for Trouble' !  Does anyone know, does the show have a break or something?

  12. Erm someone answer me this: In this episode we see those pegasi bullies taunting Rainbow before the competition that a Sonic Rainboom is just a myth, and that no one's ever done it before - but I swear that in the Cutie Mark Chronicles we see that Rainbow performed the stunt in front of everyone during a race against these exact bullies! What, did they just forget that that happened all those years ago?
  13. Did anyone else think that Parental Glideance was one of the best RD-focused episodes in recent times, if not ever? I'm a massive fan of hers, and look forward to every moment she's on-screen, but I thought this episode really stood out! The focus on her background - and her likeable parents - was so intriguing, and it felt like we were there with Scootaloo making all these discoveries! The parents might have been flawed in their excessive support but there are multiple lessons and morals to learn from this episode, and one of them was that it's okay to let your child develop a bit of independence. It was cool to see Rainbow and the Wonderbolts doing their everyday duties with fans like signing pictures, posing for pics and ribbon-cuttings; Rainbow's chemistry with Scootaloo seems so genuine, and it was weird to see the fan actually advising the idol (role reversal haha). RD episodes are always great but I just loved this one, there was so much to take in and I'm curious to know what all you RD fans out there thought about this episode!! P.S. I'm just gonna go and make a pasta and potato salad sourdough sandwich, back in a bit.
  14. I've no idea how but last night I had an MLP-related dream, albeit extremely weird - it was like something out of the Magic School Bus: me and a whole load of us from this community, as well as the Mane Six, were somehow shrunk and got accidentally eaten by Rainbow Dash, but what was weird was that she was then with us inside haha! I particularly got on with Twilight I remember waking up in a daze and being like "whaaat the fu....?"
  15. No, because she stuck to her gut and maintained honesty throughout - it was just the way she handled it. I dunno, it felt like this episode raised a generally important issue in current society. Is it ever okay to tell a lie when telling the truth would seriously hurt someone? AJ eventually did tell the truth and it crushed poor Rarity and her friends...funnily enough in my college seminar this week we discussed these kinds of ethics and suggested that it might be permissible to bend the truth slightly, avoiding a lie altogether but sparing someone's feelings too. AJ could've simply offered honest opinions which looked for the positives of the clothes designs, rather than constantly trying to find criticisms to make herself feel better for being honest. Just because you're a critic doesn't mean you have to be negative (I refer any Simpsons fans to 'Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner'), and I think the real drive in this episode should've been more focused on AJ coming to terms with such a balance between honesty and good-intentioned kindness, although they did hint at this in Leap of Faith. Obviously it's a kids' show so they could never advocate fibbing or lying, but in reality there come times when telling the truth jeopardises friendships to unsalvageable levels. Not a bad episode by a long shot, just predictable because we've seen the Rarijack combo often enough now. Let's see something like RD & Twilight or Fluttershy & AJ

  17. Parental Glideance was genuinely one of my favourite episodes in recent memory!  Since RD is my fav character, episodes like this only strengthen that!   What about any of you, were there any specific-character focused episodes that made them your favourites?

I loved Parental Glideance as well! Definitely one of my top favourites. I also liked Amending Fences featuring Twilight and To Where and Back again featuring Starlight Glimmer as she had to team up with other reformed characters.

  18. Jeez I'm getting slated for this now... look all I meant was I never really liked the Wonderbolt characters, and this episode did nothing to change that. Their behaviour was not out of line in the episode; they behaved as one would expect them to and I even enjoyed Spitfire shaking hands. Maybe I got a bit carried away by profiling them overall but it was just from the opinion of someone who never really liked the characters!
  19. I thought this was a fantastic episode - it offered so much that we haven't seen before! The chemistry between RD and Scootaloo is genuine and you can see how hurt RD is when Scootaloo briefly loses faith in her hero. Nice to see that someone who hasn't enjoyed a family upbringing (Scootaloo) places so much value in acknowledging what your parents do for you - something RD didn't, instead snapping at them. I really thought it was great to see RD being so embarrassed by her parents, given how she tries hard to come across as the hard and competitive pony all the time. It's very telling that the cool pony isn't always what she seems. Scootaloo displayed a very mature attitude when she spoke to RD towards the end; a noticeable role-reversal to what we've seen with these two before. What with RD being my favourite character and all, this episode was so fascinating with its insights into her upbringing and also a quite angry side when she lashes out at both her parents and then Scootaloo. I feel like a lot of parents will have watched this episode thinking that the plot was a subtle dig at them, saying you mustn't be too overbearing on your children - but the beauty of this episode is that there's more than one moral: yes, it's okay to let your child be a bit independent; never take your parents' love for granted; you should be careful what you say and to whom (Scootaloo may have been excited when she told RD's parents, but you should still be apprehensive); you can't run away from problems and avoid confrontations forever - so much to interpret, and I hope people agree with me here ! As we've been saying, the animation was superb - the wing gestures are hilarious! A little odd at first, especially when RD's mother and Spitfire shake 'wings', but it's a clever device from the writers and we can hopefully look forward to more of that! A FEW MINOR CRITIQUES: A few people have pointed out the weak story arc of her parents miraculously remaining unaware of their daughter's Wonderbolt success, but I'll buy it. Really nit-picking here, but I don't think people would invite someone into their house and expose their daughter's life to anypony who walks in claiming to be researching. A little issue but nothing too severe - this is the MLP universe, after all. The writers made the Wonderbolts come across as a bit unlikeable, but they made a nice gesture at the end with their private performance. I guess they're in the series to fill the "judgemental jocks" profile. The door joke was funny but they didn't need to do it twice. I found the nap joke funny but I can see why people would find it forced. On the whole, a really enjoyable episode that continues to showcase the promise this season keeps bringing! Here's to many more like this, and congrats to the writers for a top storyline.
  20. I'm British and lived in London al my life but - as much as I want to say Rarity is British and how cool it'd be to have a Brit in the Mane Six - I regrettably have to assert that she does indeed speak in a Transatlantic accent that is most certainly not British through-and-through. Frankly, I don't see the point in this 'transatlantic' accent. Just pick a side already...
  21. I swear this episode's moral is in direct contrast with the moral of 'Castle Sweet Castle', since this one involves the Mane Six realising they should decorate and fix Rarity's boutique with their own unique characteristics, whilst in Castle Sweet Castle they realise they can't make Twilight feel at home with all their personal touches, and conspire to decorate it how Twilight would want it.
  22. Hi guys! So I've just been watching Equestria Girls for the first time, and think it's pretty good tbh. The transition between the universes is believable-enough and not rushed. The storyline and moral was a bit clichéd / predictable by the end, but overall I enjoyed this venture from MLP. I just had a few thoughts I wanted to share with all of you: 1 - Why exactly do Celestia and Luna decide to send the mirror to Princess Cadence? It's a significant plot-hole that's not really explained, simply that Celestia hoped that by moving the mirror portal around Equestria that would somehow confuse Sunset Shimmer? 2 - If this universe is a parallel, wouldn't there be a Twilight Sparkle already in the human world (and Spike)? I mean, what would have happened if the Mane Six had followed her into the portal? Would there have been two of each character? Likewise if the humans had come to Equestria, would they have been turned into the exact same ponies as the Mane Six? If it's to be an exact parallel world, Twilight - and her pre-existing friendships with her human friends - would already exist, before Princess Twilight made the jump. Other than those two niggly issues, I loved Equestria Girls! As we speak, I'm preparing to watch Rainbow Rocks! :comeatus: Let me know what you guys think!
  23. Hey guys, I know that the show's purpose is to promote the value and strength of friendship, but am I the only person who felt slightly dissatisfied with the Mane Six's accepting forgiveness of Starlight Glimmer's actions? I mean she set out to destroy them - I don't care what she says, I would never trust her again!
  24. 17:06 in 'What about Discord' - anyone else notice Discord's split-second smirk? Wondering if it's an editing mistake, watching it right now
