In concordance with what AURAequine had mentioned, you can only be utterly solely responsible for your own happiness Sunset, not anyone else's, they all as well must find their happiness on their own terms, anypony who's ever lived is solely responsible for their own happiness. It is those who don't realize this end up feeling completely lost in life because they never allowed themselves the chance to express their own personal identity in light of their own interests and feelings...

in contrast to the mentality to want to please everyone else around you.

I understand a bit of what that kind of mind-dynamic is like, but in the long run, staying true to yourself and your own self identity will in the end result in you being happy with yourself, but also being surrounded by and "making happy" as it were, those all around you who've actually taken personal interest in your own personal well-being and progression as a living being Sunset.
