      Darkness is merely the lack of light..

      As soon as light shines, shadows fades away..

      This is true for emotions too.. Light representing Joy, and Dark representing sorrow..

       

      You may feel sorrow and be within the shadow, the darkness.. but some a moment of joy that darkness

      fades away, if only for a while.. then the light leaves and the darkness returns once more..

      Darkness and light are basically two sides of the same metaphorical coin. Hence also the symbolical meaning of things such as the Yin-Yang, and other similar concepts. Darkness cannot exist without the conjunctural existance of light and much the same oppositely.
