Self-Insert characters. One of my pet peeves, because literally any criticism I can level against them will be treated as a personal attack to the author, and I have to back down or be labeled as a cyber bully. -.-

The kinds of people who are like this think that they are perfect in every way, so their self-inserts should be perfect as well, which is why they don’t take kindly to criticism, no matter how constructive.
My character used to be a self-insert, until I realized how Mary Sue it was, so I reworked him to the one you see, Kronos. Unlike my previous OC, who was an all-powerful deity, my current OC, Kronos, is a mixture of my ideals and my reality. He has ambitions that he’s aspired to, but he still has struggled that are similar to what I’m dealing with IRL. That is how you make a good self-insert character. Put your aspects of your reality into this character and give them a mix of your reality and your ambition. And who knows, if made this way, your OC could become an inspiration for you to strive for something greater than who you are right now.
