Anchors looked up at the large gates emblazoned with "SV." Sighing, he gently pressed the buzzer on the wall. After a few moments, the telltale aura of an enchantment flared to life around the speaker.

    "Mmmyes? Who might that be?"

Anchors rolled his eyes and pressed the other button to reply. "Ya know who it is because you invited me here. Just lemme in Steel, it's right freezin' out here."

"Ahhhh! My dear brother! How swell it is to see you again on such short notice. Please, do make your way to the house. I'll meet you at the door~"

The gate opens as the enchantment fades away and Anchors slips inside before it closes behind him. He trots along the snow-dusted cobblestone path leading up to the porch of Steel's home. Granted it was less of a house and more of a mansion, but still. It was quite a substantially more than what Anchors was used to in his captain's quarters and rented apartments. Anchors's breath creates tiny clouds of vapor from his nose as he waits patiently at the intricate wooden doors.

Steel hums softly as he descends the stairs to the foyer. His massive hooves clip-clopping upon the wooden floor as he approaches the door. He opens it with a grin. "Anchors! So nice to see you face to face. Please, please come in, you must be freezing. Wipe your hooves and all that, all of the housekeepers and butlers aren't here, so do mind you don't scuff up the floor."

Anchors raises an eyebrow quizzically as he steps inside after wiping his hooves. He undoes his scarf and lets it hang around his neck. Looking around it seems that Steel is right. There's nopony but him in this massive place.

"Watcha mean the help ain't here? Where are they?"

Steel sucks in a bit of air through his teeth and sighs. With a shake of his head and a foreleg placed around his brother's shoulders. "Don't call them "the help" my dear brother. They've got names and lives too. And as for why they're not here, I let them take the days around Hearthswarming off as vacation time every year. Fully paid of course. Spending time with one's family is important after all." Steel smiles at Anchors as he trots back up the stairs. His brother follows close behind as Steel leads the way.

"Huh... That's uh... Awful nice of ya." Anchors narrows his eyes slightly. "What's the catch."

"Pfah! What catch? I'm saddened you'd ever think of me that way!" Steel's cheshire grin however betrayed his true emotions purposefully. "The only "catch" if you could even call it that, is that they miss out on the holiday bonus by taking that extra vacation time around Hearthswarming. However, since I treat my employees well, and pay them just as well, many don't feel the need for the bonus. If they need it, then they stay. If not, they spend time with their family and friends."

Anchors is unconvinced, but otherwise drops the subject.

"I mean really Anchors, it's not as if I'm some Snowfall Frost or something. Everypony should enjoy Hearthswarming. Buuut that's not why I've invited you here, is it?"

"Yeah. So... Why exactly am I at yer house."

Steel grins as he trots into his spacious room and opens up the closet. As opposed to most of the rooms in the mansion, this one was rather unkempt. Bottles of wine, spirits, and cider were arranged almost neatly beside the bed on the side furthest from the door. The sheets and covers upon the bed were messy, and there appeared to be clothes strewn about the room. Unsurprisingly, many appeared not to belong to Steel at all.

"I really must clean the room up when I get the chance. I haven't done so in quite a few moons. It's embarrassing really."

"Yeah. Betcha don't get many repeat visitors."

Steel chuckles softly as he dons a rather stylish looking coat, picking out a blazing red scarf to catch the eye. "As perceptive as you are vocabulaically simple, my dear brother. Yes. Most ponies don't come back after leaving." Steel fastens his cufflinks and tucks his scarf down the front of his jacket before putting just a dab of cologne upon his neck. Silently he offers the bottle to Anchors, to which he declines and Steel shrugs. "However, I'm hoping to break that habit those ponies seem to have with my most recent paramour."

I think ya mean your habit, Steel. Anchors once again rolls his eyes. "Maybe ya could start by cleaning up all this?"

Steel pats Anchors on the head, to which his brother huffs softly. "I've got somepony on call for that if I need to get it cleaned up in a jiffy. Besides, Logic Bomb is much, much more than some hussy. She's a very intelligent, very beautiful mare. I'm very fortunate to have met her. Small steps for now, dear brother."

"Right right. Ya still haven't answered me, Steel. Why'd ya tell me ta come here?"

"Isn't it obvious, dear brother?" Steel asks as he slicks his mane back. "I'm taking you to my tailor for something to wear to the Winter Moon Festival of course. Think of it as an early Hearthswarming gift~" Closing the closet, Steel ushers Anchors out of his bedroom. "We can't have you showing up to the VIP dinner with Princess Luna looking like you'd just got in from port now could we? We'll also get you a quick trim while we're at it."

Anchors opens his mouth to protests as they head down the hall and stairs into the foyer.

"Ah ah ah. I know how much you like your beard. But I assure you, its only a trim. You'll still have your beard, it just won't be as scraggly. You'll be less pirate, more... Dashing rogue."

The sailor stallion lets out a sigh of defeat as he's pushed back outside, his brother locking the doors and nodding. "Shall we be off then?"

"Dear, you've got mail here for you and for you as well, Anchors sweetie." The brothers's mom smiled at both sweetly and handed both the envelopes. "They're sealed up all fancy with Luna's royal seal. What've you two boys been up to lately to get mail from the Princess?" She asks as the two take the envelopes from her hooves. Immediately she goes to the fireplace and picks up a log to toss in.

"Mama please," Anchors takes the envelope and puts it in his mouth, quickly trotting over, his massive hooves thudding against the hardwood floor. "Lmme take care mf vat."

"Oh please brother, she's not incapable." Steel takes a seat nearby and slides his hoof underneath the flap, breaking the seal and taking out the paper inside.

"Oh your brother's right, Anchors. I'm still as spry as I was 15 years ago. And still just as pretty too!" She chuckles as she places the log in the fire, then uses her magic to stoke the flames before taking a seat nearby.

The giant sailor stallion frowns a bit, but otherwise doesn't protest. Was just tryin' ta help. Anchors blows some air through his nose and tears open the side of the letter, reaching in with his teeth and pulling out what resided inside. "Don't rightly know what I did ta get the attention of the Princess in the first place." He pauses for a moment and unfolds the letter, reading it over silently. "An invitation?"

Steel chuckles softly. "I'm quite surprised as well. Mostly that you'll be there too." Steel grins smugly at his brother, before waving his hoof dismissively. "I didn't expect you to be one of the VIPs." Steel pulls a pen out of his vest and begins to fill in the information on the included RSVP form.

"Says here it's for everypony to attend, Steel." Anchors points to the sentence on the letter. "All citizens are invited."

Steel brushes Anchors's hooves away and sneers at him. "Perhaps read a bit more before trying to make assumptions. Everypony received a letter, but not everypony got a ticket to attend the VIP dinner with the Princess herself." Steel holds up his ticket, smiling with smug satisfaction from being right once more.

This pony, I swear. Anchors says nothing to his brother before checking the envelope again, as it turned out, he too had a ticket to the dinner sticking out of the side. Of course, it was slightly torn thanks to his way of opening mail, but it was mostly in one piece. "Why in the world did I get one?"

"My thoughts exactly, dear brother. What could you have possibly done that's so important?" Steel speaks with obvious intent at getting under his brother's skin. "Obviously I, being of Canterlot's own premiere businessponies were to receive one." Even better was the fact that he cared very little about his own popularity, it only came with the job and rather luxurious pay of being the CEO of Canterlot National Bank's parent company. At heart, he was a hedonist, and enjoyed the finer things in life afforded by his lifestyle. It was only natural of course.

Their mother chimes in happily. "Oh hush now Steel, Anchors is important all in his own right. He plays a very important role in Equestria! Why without him you'd have a hard time getting all those exotic Haytalian wines you love so much, among other things!"

"Yes, quite." Steel says with no amount of boredom in his voice. After finishing up signing off on his RSVP, he tosses the pen to Anchors. "I do so look forward to seeing you there~ Logic Bomb was telling me about how she and her sister were to come along as well, it's a shame that you don't have a date to attend with, hm?" Steel deliberately left out the fact that he was actually only there on a date with Logic, though he assumed it served enough to irritate his brother.

Anchors sighed. Why d'ya always have ta be like this, Steel. I know yer just doin' it to make me angry... Ya expect me ta believe you found two mares that'll go on a date with ya at the same time, AND that it's them sisters? Gimme a break. He rolled his golden-hued eyes and took the pen, filling out the form himself. He'd met Cherry Bomb a while back. A little can of pep and smiles she was. "I got no reason ta be headin' there with a date on my arm. Ain't made it a point ta go searchin' fer somepony."

Steel had stood up and was putting his Winter coat back on, readying himself to leave. "Perhaps if you made a point to groom yourself a bit, and shave that beard of yours, you'd be a bit more attractive to the ladies, Anchors."

"I've been told they like my beard." Anchors scrunches up his muzzle and rubs his beard, looking in a nearby mirror.

"You're plenty handsome as is, dear. Now you two get to gettin', wouldn't want you two to miss out by not mailing back!"

Anchors turns as he stands up, tilting his head. "You ain't comin'?"

"Oh I've never been one for those fancy parties. I'll be here with a few close friends anyway. You two make sure to have fun there for me!"

Anchors gently pushed away the small ceramic teacup that he held between his hooves, lest he crush it out of anger. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Don't lose your cool, big guy. Just focus on good things. The sailor stallion seemed to calm down a bit, though to any outside observers he didn't look as if he were angry in the first place. Just another way that Anchors hides his true emotions to others.

    ...Most of the time.

"Unfortunately. He's nothing but a pain." Anchors heaves a sigh and musters up a smile. "Seems fair to me. I'll head back 'round six or so then." He stands once more and thinks for just a moment, going over an impromptu mental checklist. Did I take care of everything I needed to do here? Anchros scratches his beard and nods to himself. He bids Chamomile farewell as she trots off and does the same, exiting The Kettle. Although it was a perfectly cozy place to be, he couldn't enjoy himself if his brother were sharing the same building.

Steel gives Logic a friendly bap on the nose with his hoof. "Bah, what kind of tone is that to take with such good friends, Ms. Logic?" He simply smiled as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and ruffled the mare's mane. "Yes yes, we met yesterday about it but the world of business moves rather quickly, and I'd hate for you to lose such an opportunity." Clearly he thought both highly of himself and his own business. His ear twitches a bit as he hears somepony else addressing him. "Hmm? Ah, the resident supermodel, a pleasure to finally meet you in the flesh." After shaking her hoof, the muscular stallion reaches into the opposite inner vest pocket and pulls out a black business card, inlaid with gold print, handing it over to Fleur. "Steel Vaults, owner and CEO of Canterlot National Bank. Though I've only been it's owner for a few months now. Seeing as how its previous owner... Graciously afforded his position to me." He flashed a pearly white smile and patted Logic's head. "I was just reminding Logic Bomb here of her considerable talent with figures and how she could put that to use in a position under me." He was either completely oblivious or completely aware of that innuendo, it just wasn't clear which.

  4. @Golbez, @Eloquence

Well, looks like you already have a pretty good idea of who the playable roster is. Cherry Bomb, Strong Copper, and Copper Strikes are the "playable" characters. I'm pretty sure Anchors Aweigh was supposed to be there as well, but . . . hey, @95% Chance, you there?

Also, given that you've already jumped on the announcing part, it'd probably be best if you cue Rarity in. Her next move is moving to the starting line and instigating the "magical flare" that serves as the starting gun.

Nope! Anchors isn't taking part in the games unless he needs to fill in for someone else. Plus, he's not even particularly fast so I'm not sure why he'd be in this particular race.

Anchors finished up his tea and set it aside on the small plate made for it, sliding it towards the center of the table so he wouldn't inadvertently knock it over with an errant gesture. The sailor knew the look on her face well, it was the look of somepony mulling something over in their head quite furiously; he knew this because it was the same sort of expression he made when he was deep in thought. His ears perked, one twitching and both swiveling just slightly in the direction of her voice as Chamomile began to speak. He nodded understandingly at her first statement, reaching up and scratching his beard scruff idly. He couldn't quite hide his surprise as she actually agreed to a date with him. His eyes widened just slightly and his heart skipped a beat. She actually said yes. Give yourself a pat on the back matey, and be cautiously optimistic.

"Well ah... That sounds great! When do you get off-" Anchors cut his sentence short, listening intently. Something deep in his gut was telling him that something was wrong, something in the air, but he couldn't quite place it. That is, until the door to The Kettle opened, the little ringing bells on the door signalling a new patron had entered.

But not just any old pony.

As Steel steps into the cafe and the door closes behind him, he looks around, grinning as his eyes scan the establishment, spotting his brother among the patrons. As he did, Anchors would narrow his eyes slightly, glowering at the banker. It didn't seem to phase the violet stallion however. Instead, he seemed to almost enjoy it, if his smirk was anything to go off of. He also didn't seem to care that his brother was currently having what appeared to be a private moment with somepony else, as he was already trotting over. One would be hard pressed to figure out that the two were brothers however, as naught but their stature was identical. If Steel were to not style his mane and tail however, they would be similar in state to Anchors's unkempt locks, and if Steel weren't so adamant about being clean shaven, he too could grow a nearly identical beard like his brother.

"Anchors! How have you been, dear brother?~" If there was one thing about Steel's voice, it was as if the suave couldn't be turned off, even when he was facetiously addressing his brother. He tousled the stallion's mane and grinned down at him.

Anchors however wasn't having as great a time as Steel was. His brow was lowered, and he brushed Steel's hoof away brusquely. "Fine."

Steel was of course, all too happy to get under his brother's skin like this. "Aw, not going to ask how I'm doing in return? Quite rude if you ask me. I'm doing well, as always. Which reminds me: You still haven't come and opened up an account with us! Or is that deliberate? Do you keep your money in a chest? That's how you pirates do that sort of thing, right?"

Anchors took a deep breath, exhaling after counting to four in his head. "Not a pirate. I'm a sailor. What do you want, Steel, I'm in the middle of something."

Steel blinked once in mock surprise, following Anchors's gaze over to Chamomile. "Oh? Oh I see~I see indeed." Almost like a predatory cat, Steel circled around Chamomile before returning to his brother. "Mhmm, and here I thought you simply didn't have it in you, dear brother."

    "Steel, leave."

"Fine, fine. Even I can see when I'm not wanted! Buh bye now Anchors, Ms. Chamomile~" Steel waved to his brother, even though he was simply taking a merry couple of strides across the room. He'd have more chances to mess with Anchors later, he was certain. But for now... He sauntered up behind a familiar green mare, his shadow falling over her before he dexterously plucked the glasses right off her snout, twirling them upright in his hoof as he pulled up a chair and sat next to her, however he didn't quite address her right away. "Princess Cadance, Ms. Fleur de Lis... Ah! Ms. Logic Bomb, what a pleasant surprise to see you here!" Just as enough time passed before he assumed she would grab for her glasses, or claim them with her magic, he gently began to clean the lenses with his tie, before tucking the red fabric away and putting the glasses back on the mare's nose. "I trust you've reconsidered my job offer, no? You're quite the talented mare, you'd fit right in with us over at Canterlot National." As he awaited her answer, he made a gesture at Ginseng to get her attention. "Ginseng, is it? Would you mind getting me a chai tea with some hoof & hoof, and some cinnamon sticks?" He procured a small pouch of bits from a pocket inside his vest. "How much'll that be?"

You probably came on too strong, nice job coming straight out of left field with that one there bud. What're you supposed to do now? Was that your whole act? Anchors muttered to himself and hardened his resolve, sitting up a bit straighter and running a hoof through his mane (which slicked it back only for a moment before it sprung back into its usual state of windswept disarray.) One deep breath later, one could almost expect him to launch into a whole tirade, but... "They usually don't." He paused for just a moment before continuing. "But I'm a little unusual... In a good way, I think." He took a small sip of his tea and set the cup back down before gesturing towards the door. "See I... Rent a couple a' small places in some towns I regularly make deliveries to. One of 'em happens to be here in Canterlot." He glanced away however and rubbed the back of his neck, seeming to become a bit more nervous as a thought or two ran through his head.

Don't you leave out information just because it hurts you to say it. Be honest. Isn't that what ma told ya? Letting out a short, curt breath through his nostrils, he turned his golden gaze back to Chamomile. "But yes... I can't just stay away from the ocean forever. It's my life and my job... Just like this place is for you, yeah?" The bearded sailor smiled softly as he nodded his own understanding, mostly to himself as he seemed a bit slow on the uptake... And then he sipped from his tea again, sighing contentedly.

  7. Aha! Thank you very much!

I'm loathe to admit it, but while I had the concept for two brothers in my head for a awhile, Steel was not as well done as I'd hoped he could be, to say he was an afterthought isn't the right word, and it was more or less the fact that I was more focused on fleshing out Anchors, so Steel didn't get my full attention.

  8. Hello there! I suppose I'd say that I'm simply here out of curiosity. I've seen your posts in other threads around the OC Help area and they're very well informed and insightful!

I'm a firm believer in the fact that a character still has more room to grow after creation, so if you don't mind me submitting a two pack of double trouble OCs, I'd be delighted to hear some commentary and critique on them. I'll also pop the link to their character sheets after the form, because there's far too much to put on that form, sadly!

    Name- Anchors Aweigh

Personality- Overall, Anchors Aweigh is a nice, helpful stallion that, while a bit on the quiet side, is not without a big warm heart and care for his fellow ponies. Even though his inherent helpful and slightly oblivious nature can get him into some sticky situations, he is never without a plan (even if that plan may not be the best course of action). He holds a deep respect and love for his mother, and almost the polar opposite for his brother. This seafaring stallion is a quiet giant that makes a firm, lifelong friend once you get past his somewhat off-putting silence.

Bio- One of two brothers born in a small hamlet in Horseshoe Bay, this brother devoted his life to his passion of sailing after given a bit of "sea fever" by his father. After his father passed away at sea he decided to carry on the same legacy, constructing a hybrid ship made from salvaged parts of his father's boat and his own materials. None too fond of his brother who doesn't share the same attitude on what's best for their family.

Appearance- Anchors Aweigh is a large, workhorse-esque Earth Pony stallion. For a height reference I'd picture him roughly slightly taller than Big Macintosh, but not by much. His coat is a sort of light sea green, with his mane and tail being a more dodger blue color. His eyes are more of a dull golden hue. He sports a rather messy, unkempt mane and tail, it being given its usual windswept look by being out at sea. He can also be seen 90% of the time with a short beard along his jaw and chin. Like most workhorse type stallions, he also has fetlocks upon his hooves. (Also going to pop down a link to an image of him. Not gonna embed it because I work on massive canvases in GIMP and it'd mess with the format! http://i.imgur.com/1Cd0OXF.png )

Cutiemark- A dark gray anchor, with a light brown rope threaded through and draped around it.

    Name- Steel Vaults

Personality- Hedonistic and flirtatious, while at the same time a shrewd businesspony and manipulator. Abrasive, but not indefinitely so, and host to a surprisingly softer side that many rarely see.

Bio: The other of the two brothers born on the coast in Horseshoe Bay, Steel Vaults preferred to stay at home and help his mother around the house while his brother and father were out at sea. He believed that education was a much more important aspect of life, but understood his brother's love for the open ocean. At least up until their father's untimely death. Their disagreement caused a rift between the two and Steel eventually went off to pursue higher education instead, where he would begin to take on the traits that made him who he is today.

Appearance- Steel Vaults is workhorse-esque in stature, sharing the same muscular, Earth Pony build as his brother. He sports an Indigo coat and wine red mane/tail, both of which he keeps groomed to the best of his ability, though it's not without some errant messiness that runs in his family. His eyes are a piercing green color, complementing his coat perfectly. Like most stallions of his stature, he sports fetlocks along his hooves. He is never seen without wearing any formal attire, his favorite of which is a white dress shirt and black vest, with a red tie to accentuate the outfit. ( http://i.imgur.com/FG8Drzo.png )

Cutiemark- A grey vault door bearing lighter grey accents.

  9. Hmmmm... Everything here seems pretty solid! The only thing that's a bit jarring to me is the color of the outline. I mean, I'm by no means telling you to change it, but it just seems somewhat out of place in an otherwise well-designed character.

My eyes might be broken, but I think I'm seeing a slight gradient in her coat, which is a bit weird. Like I said, you don't have to change it, but as it seems the artwork is show-styled, you may want to look into it a bit.

He hefted his pack onto his back and stood, now seeing eye to eye with the hovering mare thanks to his height. "Pleasure to meet ya', Cherry." The workhorse looked around, seeing if anypony he recognized were around, but of course what with being in a different town, he didn't. (At least none that he could see.) In fact, he was so engrossed in his whittling that he didn't even hear the almost inaudible flutter of wings as somepony starts to watch him from above. It was only when he began to feel the sensation of eyes drilling into him that he paused and looked up from his task. And it was at precisely that moment that the somepony decided to make her presence known.

Anchors, having looked up at the same time, found his snout scrunched up against hers. He holds up the block of wood and points at it with his other hoof. "Whittling. Waiting to work." The massive stallion tucked away his materials into his pack, before tilting his head at the mare, snout still pressed against hers. "Something you need, miss...?" He trails off, hoping the she would append her name onto the end of his sentence as he sat in silence.

(+4 KNL for the encounter, but for the next two AGL rolls, roll 2d6 instead of 3d6)

Strength From the Deep(Active): Anchors Aweigh can briefly call on his inner reserves of strength earned from his life at sea to bypass particularly annoying obstacles. (Anchors can substitute his STR score in place of his AGL score for the next two rolls. Cannot be used in conjunction with, or on the cooldown of Tunnel Vision.)

I tried to keep all abilities balanced out with each other, but of course, as this is your thread, I can rework them at any time if you so wish!

  14. The premise of this thread is very simple, and it's one that (at least I think) helps with putting things out there that sometimes you just don't think you can.

All you do is post an opinion of yours that is generally just unpopular with others.

That being said, please keep things within the MLPF rules, (which means no unnecessary name dropping or hate) and don't start any unnecessary salt-flinging between each other, I didn't start this thread for it just to get locked down, so keep things civil or so help me. This is just for fun and shenanigans, and of course, voicing your opinions!

    And I'll start!

    • I think Fallout: Equestria is unoriginal, and is only held in such high regard for its (frankly absurd) length.
    • Boxing was a far better sport than MMA will ever be
    • Bioshock was the best of the trilogy, and Infinite was a marked step backwards.
