Pretty good now that I’ve had a really long night’s sleep. I mean, like 11 hours.

Aside from everything I ever learned in school, I’d say ‘creative endeavors’. I love to create art; drawing, painting, sculpting, Imagineering, writing stories, song lyrics, etc, but no one will ever see any of it. So I often think of it like, ‘If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, did it make a sound?’ In this case, if I create art and no one ever sees it, is it art at all? In reality it does matter because I still see it and it continues to form my brain and teach me new things. But seeing it piled up in a dusty corner can be a little depressing sometimes. So it seems like a waste, even if it isn’t.

What do You Think of the Concept of Shows having Generations?
Dreambiscuit replied to Gaines's topic in Media Discussion
If a series starts with certain characters, and has prequels or sequels with new characters directly related to them, I’m fine with it if done correctly. For example, Star Wars has three trilogies dealing with different generations, and that idea works. Sadly, Disney chose to disconnect the importance of George Lucas’ established storylines, replacing them with their own pathetic inventions and loosely calling them related. That's not how it's supposed to work. But as a rule, I have no problem with a multi-gen story if that’s the established template to begin with, and not just a way to replace an aging cast with a younger one. I don’t like movies or shows that dispense with beloved characters because of their age, and replace them with younger ones no one cares about. Nopony ever cared about seeing Indiana Jones Jr, James Bond Jr, John McClane Jr. It’s never worked and never will because that was never the design of these series to begin with. Generational series like MLP have always been separated from each other, so when they choose to start from scratch, like MLP G5, there’s no conflict. G5 has little to do with G4, so it doesn’t step on the hoofs of previous characters. It has to rely on its own merits, and that’s fine with me. -
Sorry I haven’t replied to this! I didn’t see a notification. But to answer your question, I’m sorry to say I don’t know if it streams on phones. I’ve never used any streaming service on a phone. But check out their website and give it a try. At worst you can get a free trial and cancel it if it doesn’t work on a phone. Sorry again for the late reply!

Drifting Home. I saw this on Netflix and liked it. It wasn’t perfect; in fact the writers left a lot to the viewers’ imaginations, but it was nicely animated, the characters were engaging, and it held my attention.

Still watching Andor. I was really skeptical starting this series because Disney and Star Wars simply don’t mix. But dang, I’m impressed so far! They only drop one episode a week (that’s Disney making sure subscribers fork out three months worth to follow a show) but so far the writing and characters are very compelling. Rogue One was the only Disney attempt at Star Wars that even remotely worked, and this series seems to be following that template. I hope the rest of the series holds up. Right now it has me seriously hooked.

I have many vinyl records, cassette tapes and CDs. Call me ignorant but I’ve never heard of ‘EP’s. I like listening to an album all the way through because it’s more immersive to spend some time with one specific theme rather than bite-sized bits of various genres. It’s like watching a movie and getting engrossed in it. And since most of my LPs are movie soundtracks, I guess that makes sense.

Finding room on my shelves for the physical books can be a problem. And I usually read while I’m lying down, with the book propped on my chest, so the big heavy books can be a bit cumbersome after a while. As for digital books, I don’t like meaningless buttons and features that mess up my reading experience. If I accidentally touch a button wrong it brings up some pointless feature that I can’t turn off. I just want to read the blasted book; I don’t need a bunch of bells and whistles!

general media Angela Lansbury passed away at 96
Dreambiscuit replied to Will Guide's topic in Media Discussion
I watched The Manchurian Candidate (1962 as a tribute). I had never seen it and heard that she delivered one of her best performances in it, so I gave it a look. She was the best thing about the whole movie. I was saving Beauty and the Beast for viewing on Halloween, as is my custom; otherwise I would have watched that as tribute. -
technology What HARDWARE do you mainly use for streaming (watching video)?

I watch my streaming services on my PS4. It’s simple and works well for my needs. -
gaming What were your favourite games to play as a child?
Dreambiscuit replied to Reecejackox's topic in Media Discussion
Since I never liked video games, my idea of diversion was Dungeons & Dragons. It was a great game that I played for years. There were other nice board games like Monopoly and Risk, but D&D was the best. So much dimension and detail, I loved it. -
I played it a lot growing up. But no one really plays it with me anymore. I have a Star Wars chess set and some find it hard to differentiate which pieces are knights, rooks, pawns, etc, so errors are sometimes made and that results in tempers and no more chess.

Yoda (Star Wars), Rapunzel (Tangled), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Barbara Thorson (I Kill Giants), Ahsoka Tano (Clone Wars), Babs Bunny (Tiny Toons), Mitsuha Miyamizu, (Your Name) Umi Matsuzaki (From Up On Poppy Hill). Honestly, too many others to name.

technology What are your rules on the internet?
Dreambiscuit replied to Reecejackox's topic in Media Discussion
No personal info like email, physical address or phone number, and absolutely no photos. I have photos online that were not posted by me so I can’t control that. But I don’t post my own. Also, I avoid conflict if I can. If I can’t have a civilized convo with someone I’d prefer to just walk away and drop the whole thing. This, absolutely! ...Also, I like the word "Interwebs." -
movies/tv When did you first get a TV in your bedroom?
Dreambiscuit replied to Reecejackox's topic in Media Discussion
I got a B&W 12 inch TV in my room when I was 12 or 13. It wasn’t hooked up to cable, VCR, DVD, or any gaming system. It was primitive and, at the time, perfect for my needs. It doesn’t have to be fancy to be good. -
general media What makes you Ship Characters?
Dreambiscuit replied to Gaines's topic in Media Discussion
I don’t make a point of shipping characters. But sometimes, when two characters have such a strong chemistry with each other that I just want to see them happy together, I sort of ship them. For example, Marble Pie and Big Mac have lovely chemistry, and they should have ended up together. I would have enjoyed their happiness vicariously. But instead Big Mac got the one-dimensional Sugar Belle, who has no chemistry with him whatsoever, and I vicariously feel the injustice of it. Sugar Belle is the product of writers who didn’t care and didn’t know the show well enough to remember Marble or even Cheerilee, and decided instead to ‘insert pre-fab romantic interest character here’ which doesn’t serve anyone. Other characters like Starlight and Trixie have a great rapport, and even though I don’t ship them, I like them as a team. -
The best movie I never want to see again. As for me: I Kill Giants (2018). I absolutely love this movie! It was such a sleeper that it went under the radar and not many people got to see it, and even fewer appreciated its subtle brilliance. It involves a young girl who (you guessed it) kills giants. Yes, real giants. Some may watch this movie and come away with the impression the giants are a mere figment of her imagination, but some very cleverly presented clues suggest otherwise. Each possibility gives a convincing case, and both sides are compelling. The writing is strong, the direction solid, and the acting, especially by the lead actress Madison Wolfe, is stunning. This movie doesn’t rely on splashy visual effects to tell its story (even though the effects are excellent); it simply relies on quality filmmaking, a nearly unheard-of art in recent years. Hot Water (1924) and Haunted Spooks (1920): Technically these aren’t movies but theatrical short subjects (being 53 minutes and 25 minutes respectively). But they’re better than most feature length movies because, let’s face it, Harold Lloyd is a genius. Like all Harold Lloyd movies and shorts, these are packed end-to-end with brilliant writing, acting and direction. It’s hard to rank these in comparison with his other works because ALL of them are perfect. Bullet Train (2022). (Spoilers) While watching this I had the distinct feeling Hollywood was just beaming with what they thought was a brilliant piece of moviemaking, but unfortunately it isn’t. The characters all felt like they were on set to party among their in-crowd friends and prop each other up. But in truth, the movie was desperately in need of a script doctor to reduce the rambling dialog, and a decent editor to cut about 30 minutes of running time. The plot points weren’t as cleverly interwoven as they could have been, and some parts (the snake) had no purpose at all. I forgot to count how many times certain characters were killed and magically came back to life in the next scene, and I couldn’t decide who I wanted to see wiped out, the good guys or the bad guys. Not a great movie.

I usually just want a sympathetic ear until I’m feeling better and can handle things better on my own. If I need a good laugh I’m happy to have someone tell me a joke. If I have a real problem I want someone to give me a straight, unvarnished opinion and advice.

If you were perusing a menu of every food available on earth, what would you select at this exact moment? It doesn’t have to be your favorite food, just what you desire right now.

Your least favorite fruits and vegetables
Dreambiscuit replied to Grtxkkyz's topic in General Discussion
Lima beans, brussels sprouts, beets, creamed corn. I really like corn but not creamed! Blechh! -
I so seldom have any time to myself that when I do have it, it’s like a special treat. I choose to isolate myself because I don’t always want to live everyone else’s life, but have a few moments to be selfishly secluded. Now, if I could separate myself from my own poisonous thoughts, I’d be even happier.

Cursive will no longer be a part of the US school curriculum.
Dreambiscuit replied to SolyWack's topic in General Discussion
It figures that cursive would be excised from school curriculums. It's a bad idea to remove it so naturally that's what they're going to do. It’s useful and a faster way of writing than common printing. Considering some of the totally meaningless garbage that schools force-feed their students, it seems cursive should be low on the list of topics to remove. But such is the stupidity of modern schools. To think that some schools have instituted ‘Ebonics’ courses into their programs, yet remove legitimate teaching of real language is typically absurd. But I guess slang and degeneration of actual verbal meaning has little importance compared to posturing for the media or imparting skills that have actual use.
