  1. Off the top of my head, maybe Megamind. He kinda got the fuzzy end of the lollipop from the get-go and has been trying to make the best of it ever since. He has feelings and falls in love like everyone else, but no one cares because of a few little foibles like trying to destroy Metro City and kill off Metro Man. These things happen. But he does manage to be clever, stylish and knows the rules of supervillain etiquette. He managed to gain a bit of credit ultimately, after defeating his own creation, Tighten, but he should have been recognized earlier. And then there’s Jar Jar. Poor Jar Jar, born into a generation with no sense of humor. Patently uncool and just trying to lighten things up in a world of dark, dark, dark characters with dark costumes and low dark voices who make it fashionable to be powerless against their own dark passions.
  2. Yes I have, tons of them! I couldn’t begin to list them all. It would probably be easier to list how many fictional characters I haven’t had a crush on. What can I say? So many of them are charming and relatable and easy to look at, especially the toons.
  3. For me, I strongly identify with several characters. One of them, Rapunzel (Disney version) is me from a younger point in my life, but I was her and still am to a point. Presently, and probably forever, I AM Belle, a certain princess who likes books and talking to the furniture.
  4. What a great lady! She was so sharp and funny and real. I thought she would live forever because she never seemed to age. She remained the same charming, funny lady she was back in the early ‘60s in the re-runs I used to watch of To Tell the Truth. And she’s done so much from those early days all the way up to the present. I adore Betty and she will be missed.
  5. PS4 for me. It’s not the best console, and I do have a hate/hate relationship with Sony. But this is the system most of my acquaintances play, so if they compel me to join them I have to have this setup.
  6. God bless him. Truly legendary and a strong personality on screen. My favorite of his films, ‘A Patch of Blue’ is a great movie that I watch on a regular basis. Sad to see him go, but at least he left us a lot of great movies to remember him by. Rest in peace, Mr. Poitier.
  7. Holiday Inn (1942). I usually watch this during the Christmas season but it got delayed this year. Still, it’s a great movie with a great cast led by Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. White Christmas (1954) is like the younger brother to this movie, and tends to be far more recognized, but this one is the better of the two. This is the movie in which the immortal song White Christmas was first introduced.
  8. Has anything scared you? Startled you? Made you feel uneasy today? Tell us all about it.
  9. I suck at sports, and basketball is no exception. The ball goes in that little hoop thingie, right?
  10. Congrats on getting in. I hope you have a great time. Don't be nervous, just enjoy the new experience and don't think too much about anything else.
  11. I like anything artificially colored, extra points if it’s pink. Extra extra points if it’s pink with sprinkles. Flowers or trim made from extra frosting for the win.
  12. I love archeology. I’m not a scientist but a history buff and I love seeing how things worked in ancient times, and how people thought and interacted. There’s been some amazing stuff done in the past; stuff no one could even comprehend doing nowadays without a computer to do the math, and it’s all because of logic, common sense and thinking. History has had some great thinkers, and I love to see the result of that. The original post in this thread suggests archeologists and artists being separate entities, but history is full of beautiful art, architecture, music and writing. It’s the whole tapestry of human development and it’s beautiful.
  13. I guess I do, but that’s just how I like it. I don’t want to conform to a template of common ‘coolness.’ And no matter where I am, I feel sort of detached from it like this is all a non-reality that I’m just getting through as smoothly as I can.
  14. I absolutely believe in it and have experienced it myself. It can take different forms ranging from romantic love to deep friendship or even a certain familial connection. People have certain cues built into their personality and even appearance that are necessary to catch the eye of a potential soul mate. This is by design, to help people find a suitable match. This is not meant to be an emphasis on physical attraction, but I do think people can connect to a certain look (which I call the ‘secret look’) which is more of a recognition of type rather than surface attractiveness alone. People are often attracted to others who are similar looking to themselves, and maybe that’s because they recognize something familiar that they feel comfortable with. On the other hand, I’ve personally fallen for someone completely different than my ideal ‘look’ but was no less enamored. I guess the bottom line is that love is a complex science and can’t really be explained in just a few well-chosen words. But love at first sight, or by first encounter, or by any means, even reputation, is real and very strong.
  15. Mine was quite nice. There were some changes to the decades-old approach to a lot of it, and it improved matters dramatically for me. Rather than exhausting myself with some fairly over-the-top traditions I’ve maintained over the years, I streamlined them into more manageable tasks that represent a traditional approach in a smaller and less stressful way. There was also a change from the Christmas dinner from turkey to Prime Rib, which was easier to make and less tranquilizing on Christmas Day when everyone was getting tired from being up early. Gifts were nice too, but I think they should be trimmed back just a little more next year. We added some new led lights to the tree and it really made a beautiful difference to the overall display. I’d say it was all nicely improved over the usual.
  16. I like Macintosh the best. I remember having some when I was little and living in Massachusetts. Sadly I’ve never had anything like them since. I can get Macintosh apples anywhere but they’re nothing like the ones I had back in the day. The ones I had were red and very tart, but the kind I find at the store are green and really ordinary, so maybe I was misinformed as to the proper name of the ones I had, or the rest of the world is wrong and should plan a visit to the northeast for a refresher course on a seriously yummy apple variety.
  17. I’ll be checking the refrigerator to see if it’s functioning or if I need to unplug it to allow it to defrost a little more. The whole thing stopped working today and some milk spoiled in there. I’m trying to fix the problem now so I have to keep checking it at intervals throughout the night.
  18. Some leftover Popeye's chicken. My refrigerator is breaking down so I'd better get what i can before everything spoils. (Any little excuse will do).
  19. I can’t really handle coffee anymore for some reason. But I always took mine very sweet with cream and sugar. Sometimes even mixed with hot cocoa. I like tea pretty sweet too, maybe with lemon or honey, depending on my mood. If I have a cold I’ll add a bit of wine to it.
  20. I got the two basic shots and don’t see any desperate need for another. If other countries start to open borders and require I get another shot in order to travel there, I’ll do it for that reason. If there’s another pressing reason before that I’ll consider it, but I have no plans at this moment.
  21. I got a three tier bookshelf for some books and dvds I got for Christmas. Now all I have to do is figure out where to fit the shelf and I’ll be in great shape.
  22. Born in May, just as things started warming up.
  23. I take Lisinopril at the moment to keep my ticker in sync. It’s a low dose and seems to be working at the moment. My other doc wants me to take Omega 3 every day but I got out of the habit of that.
  24. I’m actually okay with my weight at the present time. I did gain some at Christmas as usual (about 7 lbs over my playing weight), but the pounds dropped off again afterward. I’m getting my regular shape back too after last years’ pregnancy. That took just a tad longer than expected (and some effort) but I’m really happy that things are getting back to normal now.
