    I think the main reason why Twilight’s rise through the royal hierarchy still bothers me is that I don’t feel she ever controlled her destiny in the way her friends did theirs. Rainbow Dash worked hard to become a Wonderbolt, but Twilight was always going to rule Equestria - whether she wanted to or not.

      @Number62 Friendship means Twilight won’t be evil. Though I don’t care whether Twilight would be good at ruling Equestria because the show has never made that job important.

      If not being evil was an essential qualification, then there should be a bunch of other ponies who can also be the ruler of Equestria. And if the job was never important to the show, then what does making Twilight the ruler actually do for her?

      I mean, you'd think, but I'm pretty sure the line of succession is based on predestination - Twilight's cutie mark is on the Tree of Harmony, after all. Ensuring that she isn't evil just shows that she's ready for her inevitable fate. See also: Cadance's cutie mark and the Crystal Heart. 

      I think that is incredibly depressing, by the way. I guess the writers just never realized that's what it looks like.
