Pitch: For some reason, Twilight Sparkle and her friends start a detective agency. The only problem? None of them know what they're doing.

This is probably my favourite start to a season that this show has had in a few years... all three episodes are very watchable. Not a whole lot that's particularly surprising, though.

Characters: 8/10
Themes: 7/10
Story: 6/10
Overall: 73/100Slightly higher than the season 8 episode just because I prefer the relaxed tone.

Chrysalis was already incompetent back when she was relatively stable, so I doubt she’s much of a threat now.

People complain about how much slapstick is directed towards Spike but I think it's funny. If anything, it's unfair that he gets all the "fun."

I no longer think that Sunset Shimmer is paricularly important to the appeal of Equestria Girls. I think she is the least entertaining member of the main cast, because half the time she’s just a mellow voice of reason.

Because Equestria Girls lacks directions. They have no new cool plots, no new story arcs, and no directions. In Slice of life type of stories, the other girls are superior because their traits fit for those type of stories. Sunset and Twilight both fit for adventure stories, grand scale conflicts. Twilight gets new story arc every season and Sunset got none of that lately. Twilight characters are flawed so there are a lot of things to work with, Sunset, on the other hand, is nearly perfect beside her temper which is the only flaw that you can make a story from it. I think Sunset is still a mascot of Equestria Girls, without her, this show will collapse but if you think she is not particularly important to the appeal of EQG, it's not a good new.
They better give us another EQG movie, I missed the time when EQG was a very big thing.

@Sparklefan1234 I think she showed plenty of personality in the short at the theme park. Her getting mad at the ring toss is one of my favourite Equestria Girls moments.
@Lambdadelta I think Twilight thrives best in the slice-of-life stories, where she gets to be dorky and weird and not just some heroic figure. Even Sunset is better when they start to make her just another character rather than the heroic leader of the group.
Why would Equestria Girls crumble without Sunset? The main six are better characters than her and watching them in a mundane human world is a lot of fun. If anything, taking Sunset out of the equation would remove a dead weight on the show.

Equestria Girls: Spring Breakdown - I really did not like this. I feel like it's a serious wasted opportunity for something a lot funnier, and I'm not convinced that this particular story needed to be told. What do we gain from Twilight & co. learning to accept their superheroism? What does Rainbow Dash learn from this at all? And why is there a running gag about one person's accent? I mean it has its moments - mostly Pinkie-related - but in a lot of ways I feel that it's a step back for this series. Rainbow spends like 20 minutes of this being completely insufferable and Sunset's regressed back to blandness. She desperately needs a funnier personality. And this is the most generic conflict this series has had yet. I take it back: if this is the alternative, I'll take the bad villains.

One of those weird 'My Little Pony' facts that seems awfully sad for a kids' cartoon about talking ponies: There's a good chance Marble Pie will spend Hearts & Hooves Day alone and miserable.

I tend to exaggerate how good Equestria Girls is - like Friendship is Magic in its best years, it's mostly just cute and funny, with the occasional truly memorable episode, and it'd probably be confusing for anyone to pick up with the recent stuff - but it does way more with its format than I had ever expected.

@PoisonClaw For all we know, she didn't really get into gaming until after being reformed; I presume we don't see everything that happens. That sounds less funny, though.

I think Equestria Girls wants us to perceive Sunset as just another girl, but the fact that she’s actually a pony who travelled to another dimension and is living in another body is never far from my mind while watching.

A lot of people seem to be interested in My Little Pony mainly for its format and its setting, and so some of them seem to want the show to be more of the same, but with different characters. Personally, I'd favour a reboot with the mane six intact; they're really nuanced, interesting characters, but maybe they need a change of scenery, or stories which are outside of this show's range. What I'm trying to say is, I really like Equestria Girls and don't want this to be the last season.
