My head canon is that time moves differently in the Equestria Girls world than it does in the pony world, but what if it got so far out of sync that the pony CMC became older than the human mane six?

I feel like a lot of people overlook how weird a character Starlight Glimmer is compared to the rest of the My Little Pony cast. All the other main characters are flawed but generally wholesome, and then there's this sketchy former cult leader who still has a slightly off moral code. I mean, that's why I like her, at least.
-
One thing I do hope for the next generation of My Little Pony is that all of the fictional cultures are more integrated. I want to see griffons living in pony cities, for instance. Would be a good reason to make non-ponies less stereotypical, too.

Apparently some people are really invested in the idea of Celestia as this kind, benevolent, wise monarch, to the point that they don't like her being fallible or showing relatively intense emotion. I never noticed this.

Just watched "Loving Vincent." Am I alone in thinking that animating Van Gogh's paintings completely ruins them?
-
I don’t really know anything about cartoons. Rather, my approach to My Little Pony is mostly influenced by movies and TV sitcoms.

Wait a minute what happened to my reaction options

@FlareGun45 I'm honestly surprised the tea thing stuck around so long.

I'm not entirely sure what this MLPF world cup thing is but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it out.

If the mane six went to a convention together, Applejack would probably be the only one not in cosplay.

Considering that we've gotten an Equestria Girls short about the last day of school, does that mean the girls will have to graduate at some point?

Totally forgot about Spike when I counted up all of My Little Pony's confirmed orphans a couple months ago. To wit: there are definitely 6 orphans, including Apple Bloom, Big Mac, Applejack, Gallus, Spike, and Princess Cadance. Cursory reading on mlp.wikia.com suggests that Scootaloo's parents are alive and haven't abandoned her, even if they're never around.

Got a new lengthy post about on my blog about the new "Equestria Girls," so check that out if you want.

You make a number of great points about the new EQG format. Well put on the charm they seem to possess (I was never a huge fan of EQG from its conception waaay back when, but some of the recent shorts are actually more similar to early-season FiM tonally than season 8 is, although I am in no way a season 8 detractor) - it's neat to see the series finally come into its own after a long string of repetitive films (although I liked "Rainbow Rocks", the others range from okay to awful ("Legend of Everfree" was one of the least watchable installments G4 has output to date, and that's despite the existence of "Hard to Say Anything")) and a trio of bizarre specials.
-
I think if they can fit in some 22-minute entries and sort out the problems with the 45-minute ones, they might really have something. Those chose-your-ending shorts in particular were way different than I was expecting - in a good way.
I think I'd find Legend of Everfree way more watchable if it were half as long. As is, the combination of murky metaphors and mild humour made that thing just go on forever and ever. I still hold "Mirror Magic" as worse, simply because it seems completely vapid to me, but at least that one's short and quick.

I feel like "Newbie Dash" gives RD more respect and sympathy than a lot of people realize.

My main problem with it is actually that I don't find it very funny at all, and in particular I find the impressions part difficult to watch. I think it might have been nice to have some indication that the Wonderbolts would have stopped calling her that if she was still upset, but I don't know what the right way to suggest that would be.
What I mostly like about it is that Rainbow becoming a Wonderbolt makes me happy, and the fact that she reclaimed the "Rainbow Crash" nickname reminds me how far she's come. She acts bad in this episode because she's anxious and insecure, and that's sympathetic to me.
-
This episode is honestly not as bad as the majority of the fandom's viewpoints indicate. The moral is kind of clunky and the lack of humour contributes no means of lessening the impact of the episode's structural inadequacies, but it's mostly an okay watch (and certainly better than a number of S6's other episodes).

Every time I see someone making up theories about where Applejack's parents went, I feel sad, like they're missing out on one of this show's most poetic and moving stories because they refuse to see what's right in front of them. If they turned out to be alive, "The Perfect Pear" would lose most of what makes it such a great episode.
-
I have to agree with you on that. If it turns out they're alive, it could make them look like deadbeats and ruin the point of how the parents lives affected several ponies' lives for the better as well as (the following spoiler box is just my head fanon, so don't take it too seriously)
Spoilerin my head fanon, a certain hungry Changeling guard to one day have a change of heart due to their influence. (C. Will Guide before he had a name)

Despite how weird individual strands of Rainbow Dash's hair have looked in the show, I don't think she dyes it, simply because dying her hair rainbow doesn't seem to me like something Rainbow Dash would do. Like, how long would she need to sit still to make that work properly?
-
Really hoping for Equestria Girls to stray further out of its musical comfort zone. Gimme full-fledged rap songs! Slather on the auto-tune! Maybe even put in some extended instrumental solos! They sky's the limit if they go that far.

I really wish My Little Pony would stop adding immediate peril to episodes which don’t need it.

This season? “Sounds of Silence.” Last season, “Rock Solid Friendship” was the one which really bugged me.
My complaint in “Sounds of Silence” was that it didn’t fit the rest of the tone; with “What Lies Beneath” was that it basically forced character development to happen; with “Molt Down” was that it made Rarity and Zecora damsels in distress.
-
Only real peril in SoS was that the two ponies would be forced into the stream - given at that point we already knew the process was reversable, that isn't much of a peril (but gave Autumn Blaze a chance to be the heroine anyhow)
I don't mind a bit of excitement to help the plot along, provided an 11 year old wouldn't be genuinely upset by it. In that, I think WLB went too far, and could give young children nightmares (while by contrast, the other dangers characters have faced are sufficiently unrelatable that viewers are going to just be waiting to see how they get out of it, rather than actually scared)
you might see it differently of course.
