  1. The character models from My Little Pony: The Movie look nice, but I just can’t get used to them.

Honestly, I still don’t think they look too great. Mostly because of the way they are animated. They move like they are made of jelly.

@Captain Clark I can't really get used to them in still shots either, which I don't feel like I have a good reason for. Maybe it's the eye shapes?

Most of my beef with the movie's animation was with the dreary backgrounds and how the characters were always sort of floating on top of them, as well as with the plethora of ugly 3D objects. I think anyone who praises the movie for bringing back 2D animation is full of shit.

Maybe now that they know what they're doing the next movie will look better, but it'll still be rigged ToonBoom puppets over unfocused static backgrounds, which will probably never look good on the big screen.

In my opinion the backgrounds are a mixed bag. Some of them look passable but the others (mostly ones that include any buildings of any kind) just look awful. The CGI in this movie is so dated that it’s a little embarrassing.

I also agree with what you said about the characters. I suppose they don’t look too bad but they match the backgrounds very poorly. As you said, it’s almost like the characters are just floating overtop the backgrounds rather than being naturally ingrained into the environments.
