  1. Maybe my apathy towards MLP "lore" is part of why it's so easy for me to regard G5 as something entirely new. To me, new characters in the same setting would be way less interesting than the same characters in a new setting. If both are different, then whatever, it's just a new show.

The show is primarily comedic and slice-of-life, and I'm fine with that. I would've been fine with the 2-parters also being slice-of-life stories, but they're not (except maybe "School Daze"). As I said earlier, I hate wasted potential, and the other princesses are prime examples of that. The show keeps saying that they're important, but they rarely do anything to suggest as such. Sure Celestia and Luna move the sun and moon, but would the show be so different if those objects moved on their own? Nope. At least Luna does her dream-walking, but that doesn't excuse her uselessness in 2-part episodes. I don't need the other princesses to be gods or whatever, but they should be important in the 2-parters considering the scope of the situations in those episodes. Instead, they contribute

Then the 2-part episodes lose credibility as more of them are made, and there's no shortage of them at this point. And I also have to ask why the more ambitious stuff (there is a reason these stories are split into 2 episodes) is consistently "not good".

Bottom line (sort of): How different would the show be without alicorns? It wouldn't. Then I ask again why they were even brought up.

And then Twilight being an alicorn princess is suddenly pretty meaningless (and I don't mean not having princess duties) when it shouldn't be.

Yeah, none of that really bothers me.

But to the extent that it does, that's what I mean by "consistency" - having a clearer idea of what each character does and is supposed to do, and what each major concept actually means, so later writers don't have to fill in the blanks.

That also bothers me, and I got tired of their inactivity during and outside of the 2-parters (but especially 2-parters as I happen to be a tad more interested in those).

Even recent episodes that tried to make Princess Celestia seem important like in "Celestial Advice" or "Horse Play" don't work as well as they should because they lack support from previous episodes.

"Magic Sheep" gets a special mention for excluding her when it didn't have much of a reason to. Even worse is that it did nothing with Luna or its ideas, which made the episode not ass, but super ass.
