Maybe my apathy towards MLP "lore" is part of why it's so easy for me to regard G5 as something entirely new. To me, new characters in the same setting would be way less interesting than the same characters in a new setting. If both are different, then whatever, it's just a new show.

I don't mind the somewhat inconsistent quality of the FiM episodes, but I do hate all the wasted potential, and this is most notable with the 2-part episodes. I don't find any of them to be particularly good.
I'm guessing you don't care much for the lore-building? The show doesn't need to have a deep and huge lore, but I do hate that the alicorns not named Twilight have done little to nothing, which makes me wonder why the show bothered with them at all. And Twilight being an alicorn herself compounds that problem.

I don't know, I'm more enthusiastic about it in other settings like "Star Wars" and "Game of Thrones," so I can't really say I'm disinterested in lore, but it's just not what I come to My Little Pony for. A very simple mythology is important for flavour, but I think the show's world has become less interesting as it's become more complex, and the world-building has always felt kinda extraneous to the show's core appeal beyond the most basic aspects. I want the princesses to do things, but I don't think I mean the same thing as you do. I guess it's just not what I come to this specific show for. I think most of the two-parters are fun, but nowadays I feel they're more of a nice change of pace than something fundamental to the show.
I mean, I might be more interested if the next show has a more adventurous tone and more personal reasons to get the ponies out of their hometown, but that would be enough of a change that my original point still stands - G5 is something entirely different and will potentially need to gain my attention all over again.
I guess what I mean by "consistent" is a little more focused, with a somewhat clearer idea of what's going on with each character and how their relationships are supposed to work. And I guess I wish it were willing to take more risks, like, the current show won't even let LyraBon kiss. Mostly I want it to lean more into comedy and experimenting with story types.
