Moved to Media Discussion, as that is where media related topics like YouTube discussion go.

Whoops! Sorry about that. I had a feeling I posted in the wrong threat. I'll be more careful in the future.

I think this is Youtube's way of punishing channels for uploading kid-friendly videos.

Some time ago there was an issue of Youtube violating COPPA by collecting information about kids (it's a bit more complicated, but not by much). Since then, Youtube requires uploader to mark if the video is "for kids" and then YT cannot collect information about the people who watch the video. So, I guess, disabling comments is a way to discourage uploaders from marking their videos as "for kids" (because if the video is for kids and is not marked as such, then YT proceeds to collect information and if there's a problem with the law, then YT hopes to make the uploader responsible and get him to pay the fine).

COPPA is important infrustracture yet it is very complex. I see why Youtube disabled comments for certain videos, while others it doesn't seem fair to the creators.

Yeah, this has been a thing for a while, but I can sort of understand it. What bothers me more is that YouTube won't let you put any of those videos in a playlist. Now thats's stupid.

Really? I hadn't noticed that. I'm guessing because if you create a playlist with child friendly videos versus just regular vidoes that is deemed a bag thing. See this is where it doesn't make sense to me. If a kid is watching a cartoon they can't comment but if they are watching a normal video not intended for kids they can. It logic isn't really there for me.

Something about "they got around the age restriction" I recall reading when it first happened.

Also how would one verify one's age?

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking about verifying your birthdate but then anyone can say they are any age on the internet.

  2. I recently was browsing clips of shows like MLP, Miraculous Ladybug, and animated movies. I scroll down to the comment section and Youtube has them turned off. I guess they recently enacted "Youtube Kids" where they turn off comments on any videos deemed content for kids. As an adult it sucks because now I can't give my input or discuss most animation videos, including MLP, Miraculous Ladybug, Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, etc. Will I survive without commenting? Yes. However, it just seems kind of overkill in my opinion. Why not allow comments as long as people verify their age?

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this new development?

nice find! I'm not sure yet either if it has anything to do with the plot and what not. or just a Easter egg...hmmmm... what do you think @Valeska?

Thanks! Honestly, I think it is hard to tell at this time what kind of significance it holds. It could pertain to a future plot but most likely it is probably just an easter egg. I mean, they have already incorporated Grogar back in fim, even though it wasn't truly him. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I thought the same thing after posting that image!

  4. Oh gosh. Don't make me remember. I guess the clips I've seen from "Sausage Party" have been pretty weird and gruesome. As a whole I'm not a fan of adult cartoons. They take away all my joy.

What sport would you make an Olympic sport?

  5. I find it possible that Rainbow can make her up the ranks to captain, but as of right now it seems unlikely. Spitfire is a pretty lovable character and I find it unrealistic to see her retiring or stepping down anytime soon. However, I could see Hasbro make an episode where Spitfire injures herself or causes her to step down for a brief period of time, leaving Rainbow Dash in charge. But I can't see Rainbow taking over the rank of Captain, on a permanent basis, anytime soon.

I was honestly very surprised to find Grandpa Gruff being the griffin to represent Griffinstone and introduce Gallus to the School of Friendship. I was expecting Gilda to be the one to introduce Gallus.

It has been a good couple seasons since the last time we saw Gilda and an even longer time since Gilda was given a speaking role. Are we to assume that Gilda is now in charge of the Griffins? Or does the voice actor of Gilda not want to reprise her role? What do you think we haven't seen Gilda in a while and will we see her this season?

I heard somewhere that Hasbro dropped the deleted intro because they thought it was "too repetitive/besides the point". I think what they meant by this is that the princesses and Tempest were introduced in the movie later, and they didn't want to feel as if they were introducing the same characters twice. Granted, I think they were introduced better in the deleted scene, but apparently Hasbro didn't think so. It may have also been cut due to time constraints too, because again, they didn't really want to introduce characters twice in the same movie.

I could see how it could be deemed repetitive but I also think it would give a better explanation as to who the princesses are as a whole. Though it kind of just leaves more questions unanswered for those who aren't fans of MLP.

While I like the cut material, it doesn't really have a place in the film, IMO. It really just feels like teaser trailer material. You could put it at the beginning, but what's the point? As much as I am not a fan of "Ponies Got the Beat," the sweeping animation really provides a MUCH better feel as an opening.

Still, I will admit, Tempest literally leaves me with shivers at the end of the deleted bit. Nicely done.

Also; Cadence is Princess of Family. That her official title now aside from Crystal Princess?

Hasbro could have made it work if they really wanted to. But it is a cool piece no matter how you look at it. They made Tempest look extremely savage in the end. I love the squinty eyes and the chaotic magic.

I do agree with you about how they interpreted Princess Cadence. Her official title is Princess of Love right? Why not stick with that instead of making it sound like something else entirely.

  8. Yes, I can write a fanfic. I actually have a bunch of mlp fanfic ideas in mind but I haven't written them yet. I need to just sit my butt down and do it! (If you want to hear some of my ideas send me a PM and I'd be glad to share my ideas.)

Have you seen Black Panther? Thoughts without spoilers? (Double question. Hehe.)

  9. [Spoiler: Villian shown]

By the looks of things, this is what part of, if not the whole original intro could have looked like. However, Hasbro decided to ditch this intro for the one that made the final cut.

Personally, I really dig this deleted intro. I would have liked to have seen this intro along with parts of the final intro incorporated into the movie. This intro scene gives a better explanation to non-pony fans of who the princesses are. Plus, the deleted intro introduces the villain in a cooler more eviler way.

Let me know what intro you prefer in the poll.

Why do you think Hasbro dropped this intro?

Leave your thoughts and opinions below.

  10. @DonMaguz I couldn't agree more. I ultimately believe Pharynx's steadfastness to protect the hive made him remain in his first form to better protect his family. Only when he deemed the hive safe and the other changelings saw the need for stronger security, did he allow himself to accept the love and friendship offered by others.

I'm curious; if you had to give Pharynx a title, what would you give him?
