The only other time I encountered this was players on minecraft servers using yogscast member names for example, I was like 10 at the time and didn't put much thought to it but now I'm pretty curious, That was very insightful though, thanks riki.

Oh, in this case it falls under trolling.
Some people enjoy pretending to be the famous person, just to have fun. How many players will fall for that? That was the fun thing for them to discover.  

A few did that, it was pretty obvious, but majority weren't, they just went about their business (PVE mind you)

I understand all the reason but still just can't help but ask "why?"  I think I'd benifit from asking a few people, though.. Hopefully in a nice manner...
