  1. Well, who knows. Let's wait and see. Sure, there's no backwards compatibility physically with the use of cartridges instead of discs and all, but I'm talking downloadable titles. Besides, people don't seem to have a problem with them rereleasing Splatoon and Mario Kart 8, so I don't think It'll be too much of a hindrance as long as they add things to the Switch version that improve over the Wii U version, and it looks like they're doing that.
  2. Third party support Isn't everything, and there are cartridges nowadays that reach 1TB in size, however I do think battery life will be an issue...
  3. OK, those are pretty funny, but I don't think the controller will be an issue... Yeah, but I actually support Breath Of The Wild for doing that. Not everybody can afford to get the new system so It's nice to see Nintendo giving last gen owners new games too, though knowing them it won't last long... Let's get this out of the way, of course there's going to be a new Mario game, there's ALWAYS a new Mario game on any Nintendo console, It's a staple for them now. I'd also like to see at least a decent amount of new games too, but I can't deny that getting some more ports of older games to play on the go would be nice, maybe they can set up a virtual console market or something. I'm sure It'll be fine, as long as Nintendo delivers and ports over the games people want ported over from the Wii U, and it looks like they're doing that. To be honest I'd much prefer it if we at least got SOME more details before next year. There are a lot of things people are gonna wanna know about the system, I for one wanna know the price so I can plan how I'll save my money to get one, and at least what a few of the launch titles to be to pick and choose the ones I care about, Nintendo can't just keep us in the dark like this for so long.
  4. Very much agreed. I feel this might go well.
  5. I don't think they're only aiming at classic fans. There's also Project Sonic 2017 coming out and that looks fun.
  6. I get where you're coming from, but It's not like there's no demand for this. Having a portable console with the same sort of experience we're currently finding only on home console releases would be an awesome thing.
  7. Ah, I see what you're getting at. It doesn't seem like the Nintendo Switch will be as underpowered as people thought, but then again, Nintendo Isn't known for high graphics powerhouse games, so I don't mind it either way. Still, I'm sure some people will be happy to know Nintendo's specs are getting closer to that of other consoles. I also have to agree on using cartridges over discs, It's a lot more practical for what Nintendo wants to achieve. Though I want to dispel this myth that cartridges are "instantaneous" as it were. It's faster, yes, but It's not like the N64 days. There are plenty of 3DS games that take their time loading. 1 TERABYTE? (sniff) they grow up so fast...
  8. Not all of it. There's just sadly a lot of fairly infamous people who's bad actions are tainting others image of the fanbase as a whole.
  9. I'm hoping the same, but It's all hopes and dreams at this point. Yeah, the battery life on Wii U was pretty bad. Sorry. It's just that usually in the gaming world people use gimmick as an insult to a console, and therefore I do think it carries a negative connotation.
  10. You can't really consider the Switch a successor to the 3DS OR the Wii U, since It's technically a hybrid. And if the 3rd party chooses to leave, that's their own doing. Besides, we have to remember Nintendo's the only company left who are still making actual consoles rather than Xbox One and PS4 who are trying to emulate a PC experience and effectively destroying any advantage they have in the home console market, besides the graphics at least. Besides, even if power does matter that much, I think we're a while away from the technology needed to do the same thing with Microsoft and Sony levels of graphics as Nintendo can do with the Switch. Well, even if they do lose some 3rd party support, Nintendo still have their own games to sell the system with, a lot of people don't seem to be grasping that. And again, I'm noticing this misuse of the word gimmick. But still, I think the marketing here is a lot clearer than it was for the Wii U, so surely that must mean something, but I guess we still need more info. OK, you keep bringing this up so I really have to ask, what's so huge about Nintendo using Nividia technology? Battery life might be an issue, but I'm really hoping for 60 FPS but honestly the Wii U performed well in terms of framerate so I'm not too worried. As long as Nintendo keeps their end up on that, It's all good. And, hello, Nintendo make games themselves too ya know, in fact they usually have the most exclusives of each generation. Why is everyone expecting the system to sell on other people's games? Gimmick - a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or trade. Read it long, read it loud, read it good.
  11. Perfect example: Look at the 3DS and Vita. Those both used cartridges and even though the Vita flopped big time, the 3DS is still king of the portable console market.
  12. Being cautious about it is reasonable, we need to wait for more information and news to unfold. I know I'll be buying it, but I still need to be cautious because we don't know much about the system other than It's whole double console and portable feature, though for me that's a selling point alone. I think we had enough new IP's with the Wii U. Are you saying Satoura Iwata was bad at his job? That sounds interesting... On the subject of 3rd party support, I guess we do have to be careful about it. There's no telling what could happen here. And I don't think cartridges will be nearly as hard to program games for as the gamepad apparently was.
  13. We have to wait and see until we know enough about the console and It's games. I also find it kind of interesting they show no kids in the trailer, almost like Nintendo has given up marketing to them because kids nowadays seem more interested in Call of Duty than anything Nintendo has to offer. With the success of the 3DS I have a feeling this'll do well, Nintendo has seized the portable console market. I wouldn't know much about the graphics card though, I'm not that tech savvy. I get what you mean. I'll probably still buy both the Xbox and the Switch anyway, but I understand where you're coming from. Also, on the subject of competition, the 3DS and the Switch can exist in the same market, there's no telling which is better right now of course, but the 3DS still has the double screen which can make for some interesting games. You seem a little neutral on this whole thing I guess, but hey, that's fine. Yeah, I'm hoping we can see more of that Mario game soon. Well, It's like I said before, we can only hope that Nintendo will port a decent amount of Wii U games to the switch. Paper Mario what now? I agree with you on the name though. Besides, I'm sure before release Nintendo will send out review consoles and they can confirm any problems with the controller. This Isn't a tablet, it won't be powered by Android I'm fairly certain, Nintendo probably has their own OS for this thing. Besides, even if it was, Android is still better than any other OS in the tablet market so... That's sort of irrelevant to what grim was saying. I doubt it would do it automatically. I don't think we'll see Microsoft or Valve ever do that, but hey It's good to have dreams though. You can say that again... XD I'll never understand why people call Nintendo consoles gimmicky. It's not a gimmick, It's just a new feature. At least they're trying something new, and well, I suppose we DO have to wait and see for the games to be any good. It is only a prediction man, we can't say anything for sure yet. Again, not really gimmicks, but I get where you're coming from. Yeah, let's hope those 3rd parties don't ditch though...
  14. @Jonny Music @Kyoshi @Shift @VGAddict OK, there's some things I wanna get off my chest here, but the reply's are getting a little hectic so I'll just summarise it in one post. First, why are we comparing consoles to PC's so much? I admit PC's are much more powerful than any console, but like others have said, It's a different market, they might have similar or the same games as consoles do, and some exclusives of course, but the PC gaming world is very different to the console side of things, I know from experience. I personally prefer consoles because It's a lot less hassle, though I don't appreciate them trying to copy PC's with stuff like forced installations, but that's a topic for another day (Oh, by the way, Nintendo's the only company who didn't do that, props to them). I understand they will be compared at some point, but PC's aren't part of the equation here, and like I say power doesn't always equal better. Just to clarify, I'm a multiplatform gamer, so I don't like to think I'm biased towards certain companies. But I feel some are being too harsh on the Switch as a whole and we've gone really off topic. It's the Wii U all over again with the people here it seems.
  15. Fine, I guess that's pretty solid. I don't have much to add there, sorry, my opinion's actually pretty similar to yours.
  16. Gonna have to disagree there. It's not Nintendo's fault that third party companies were too lazy to spend enough time working with the hardware to see what they can do. Why? Because they're too busy sticking to the norm and creating more of the same old thing, which, while admittedly there are a lot of fun games on Xbox and Playstation, there's still an abundance of regular shooters. I like Nintendo because they try to innovate, and It's the 3rd party's own fault because they don't understand that sticking to the same old thing will only get you so far.
  17. That's all good I guess. I respect your opinion and find what you're saying interesting. Sorry for not saying much, It's late. Guess Mario's lucky, sigh.
  18. I don't think It'll be back compat. You know, cartridge based and all, the best we can hope for is ports. What terrible home consoles are you referring to? It should totally say SWITCH every time you plug it in and out.
  19. The system was only just announced, give it time to simmer and I'm sure we'll see some game announcements soon. It's not like Nintendo's forgotten about those franchises you listed. We had Metroid Prime Federation Force, and the still popular Animal Crossing New Leaf. Are we really going to slam on the graphics power again? Look, Skyrim is available in a lot of places, It's Nintendo's own games that will sell the system mainly I believe, and we know that they focus on gameplay over graphics. I understand wanting something more, but Nintendo is all about simplicity. There have been a lot of good Wii U games, I think the problem here is everyone is expecting tons of amazing games on launch, but if we look at the Wii U, people just needed to stick with it as the new games come slowly but surely. I still like the Scorpio though, It'll be neat to have some power. As I've said to others, I think the big deal here is that we're getting fully fledged console games in a portable form. That's never happened before as far as I know. There's room for both consoles to exist in the market, the 3DS still has the advantage of the double screen, even if it doesn't have those games, so I don't think It'll become obsolete. And as for the Xbox One and PS4, well, again I think we should make judgement based on the games themselves, not how powerful the system is.
  20. To be honest, I don't think Nintendo's to blame there. If we're gonna talk third party support, why aren't we angry at the actual third parties who kept walking out on the Wii U?
  21. I just want to point out that even though this blurs the line between home and portable gaming, I don't think exclusively portable gaming is going anywhere anytime soon. Remember, we still have the 3DS and even now there's still plenty of opportunity to use the double screen for games, something the Switch doesn't have. So the Switch hasn't made portable systems like the 3DS obsolete I feel. Besides, I think some people will just find the 3DS more practical for portable than the Switch anyway. I actually really like Splatoon, but to each their own I guess. And as much as I love exploration in games, I want them to keep it linear to at least some degree, sometimes It's really confusing in Mario games trying to figure out where to go. I think the whole hype surrounding the Switch is the fact that we're getting full home console grade releases that are portable, something that seemed impossible before. That's not to say portable games aren't good, but to be able to play something like a Wii U game, with home console graphics and with the tons of content on console games is amazing. Since when were ports a bad thing? After all, with the system using cartridges it won't be backwards compatible, so we really need all the ports we can get. I'm not sure really. We'll have to wait and see. Considering how much game consoles cost nowadays, it wouldn't be surprising. Have you seen the Xbox One S or PS4 Pro price tags?
  22. Wow, that's a long time. Nintendo should bring back their "Now you're playing with power" slogan. That would give you the power to resurrect Nintendo Power.
