I wonder if Lauren Faust planned for Star Swirl the Bearded to be left up to fan interpretation
but after she left Hasbro/DHX was like:
"Hey, we should bring in that wizard pony that Twilight Sparkle fanmare's about."

@Sparklefan1234 I can't really agree based on the episodes she wrote for Foster's (as I mentioned in the previous comment)... Though it could be that her writing was better suited for that show than MLP – who knows.

@Tacodidra I think what I'm trying to say is I thought the pilot didn't really accomplish much with part 2.

The pilot isn't among my favorites either... and I also got into the show with "The Ticket Master" like you.

And I wouldn't say that's one of the best episodes either. Looking back, though I enjoyed season 1 a lot, I think it might have been a little uneven at the start. I remember liking every other episode much more than the ones in between... Would Faust have written better episodes later on? We'll never know unfortunately.
