      as for Celestia and Luna, they could have been born by a female alicorn and a male of another race, or maybe even earned their wings like Twilight did, though it doesn't seem to be the case in the journal of the two sisters, so i'll go with the gandalf theory, they were sent from a distant land to guide the ponies in harmony and unity
