There's one other thing I wanted to mention.
Twilight was bad. Sure, I can't argue that point. But it wasn't the worst ever, something to hate the author for. Was just watching a video about the notion and it showed a short clip of the guy that played Edward Whatever saying that Miss Meyer seemed "mad and in love with her creation."
...I can't hate a being for that. Fanficky of a story, sure. But she still accomplished her vision and dream, even if it was rather pandering tripe. She, herself, seems like a nice lady. One's work does not encapsulate the whole of their being, no matter how transparent it may seem.
....I bring this up... because I forgot to mention... that when last I went book shopping...
I skimmed through a copy of 50 Shades of Gray.
...
I'll curb myself and bring up only one point. If you are writing a story where a scene is set with your main characters dining publicly in some cafe and the sentence "Are you going to hurt me again?" comes up like its just commonplace of a conversational note.... ............
... then you might just be PREYING on your audience.
Just... I don't know. MAYBE THERE'S SOME THAT DON'T LIKE THE PORTRAYAL OF ABUSE, YOU KNOW?!!?
I find it amusing that there's this meme-ish idea that its the sort of book to blush at while reading. Was not the expression I had on my face during. More like gap-jawed horror. Let me put it this way: Sometimes, you can tell when there is just absolutely no heart put into a creative endeavor. And that's the part that really sticks to me. When you create just to serve your own selfish ends. That I have personal experience with.
