 Just woke up from a rather sensical, MLP-episode-dream! 

 See, framing device is a Magical Meteor hits Equestria & resets reality just a bit. (Nothing spectacular, was smaller than a pony & basically your usual video game spell effect animation) 

 Pinkie Pie & Starlight swap places & bodies/jobs. Naturally, both are horrified. Glimmer physically can't stop smiling or grasp the fact that she's suddenly friends with the entire town and no longer needs to worry or try so hard. While Pinkie... can't smile and is in Glimmer's body way off in some magic school as Dean where the only thing she can do is order other ponies around, against their will, from a dark, roof-leaking office full of half-dead potted plants. Starlight is going insane from lack of applying her buried ambition & Pinkie is stuck making ponies UNhappy.

Meanwhile! Rarity has always been the librarian of Ponyville & sort of protagonist; the sort of pseudo-mayor & motherly, unofficial moral leader to this forgotten earth pony small town. Twilight Sparkle however, runs the boutique (badly, I might add. She's still our bookhorse, after all.) and was sent there as a sort of emissary & ambassador, beacause you see...

 Equestria has become a Fashionacracy!

 See, Luna & Celestia hit on a while back that they wanted to be role models if they couldn't be the ever-present gods the public wanted them to be. They have since become massively egotistical, vain & the worst of the "Popular Girls." Worst, because no pony can argue that they really are the superior race in every way. Least this way, the Royal Sisters don't have to have to do everything & be everywhere; the world really has been revolving around them. Rule by Figurehead! 

 Fashion has become all important. More important than even the government. You don't have to, of course, but anything else & you're automatically a second class citizen. There's no other drive but to be as perfect as your leaders!

 Celestial & Luna have become posh aristocrats, lounging around like Greek royalty. Longer & Lankier in typical model body types, heavy on the eyeliner & while no longer purely magical, their manes are dense, fluffy trails behind them that wave & fold just as much as before. Like some sort of gothic Afghan hound!

 ...probably the most awesome phrase I've come up with there!

 ... oh! And there was something about Fluttershy being forced into an arranged marriage with a foreign, volatile sheikh. When the meteor hit, it just winked her out of existence.
