Any else notice this generation seems a lot more... sad?
Fandoms like Brony, Steven Universe, Furry etc. all seem to be aimed at being basically a second family. Like... I dunno... like social comfort food. Then there's video games getting all the more immersive & "social" and Social Media geared to make you feel like your opinions & random thoughts effect anything. Even music has become about insisting that you have importance.
Back in the Vietnam War, we were stuck in a losing fight we never wanted to be in with a rightfully angry, young populace. But we still had culture, interests.
Everything is about depression these days...
Where did the light go?

Well, from the 60s to the 90s so much seemed geared towards self expression. From hippy culture to being some Grunge thug. Even in storytelling the downside to that has been portrayed in villains that pursue their interests at the expense of everything else.
These days I can't even find any social stuff or a blasted job without some buried website that assumes you already know how. So much self-absorbtion... but maybe I'm not seeing enough examples again.
...funny, the whole "special snowflake" feels like more of a 50s thing...
