Some Snowy Terminology for ya!:
Penitentes: Long spikes of ice around 5 meters that typically face towards the sun, usually at the base of things and rather old. These are evolved, aged forms of the Suncup, these latter of which are the small depressions found in patches of snow as the sun comes out while the edges are insulated by dirt & debris, forming the namesake small cups.
Sastrugi: Tall ridges on snowpack formed by wind and facing the prevailing wind, up to three meters high. Usually what you see in those Artic pictures of all them pretty snow streak crests on the crust!
Cornice: The snowy overhang that goes well past ridges and other obstacles that makes a dangerous sort of false peak. (Think of the famous curly Q of the mountain the Grinch is known for standing on! Yeh, that's real!)
Neve: The light piling of granular snow under the crust of a snowbank before it compacts and sits long enough to become Glacial Ice. This is the younger, lighter version of the much older & denser Firn. (I'm decently sure both of these are just foreign words for Light & Thicker. But hey, fancy words to sound smurt with!)
Hoar: (No, with an A! Stop giggling!) That thin, crystally sleet covering you get on quickly formed ice. Especially from areas that vary a lot in temperature and frequent refreezing. What you usually get in freezers that chill the door shut.
And likely my favorite and cutest by far! /drumroll!
Yukimarimo: Naturally occurring snowballs!!! The tiny lil tumbleweedlike-formed balls of frost that form in light, calm winds on the plains & plateus of Antartica!
I am Master of Ice!
