Is it wrong to show little interest in a nephew / niece? Especially if they live on the other side of the world and I'm unlikely to see them for a very long time.

@Samurai Equine
I am very sorry to hear of that situation you had with your father.
My situation isn't hopeless, its more of like, I never really had a chance to form a strong bond and as a result I just don't feel strongly towards them or not. -
I understand. And considering how often you'll see them, I wouldn't suggest trying to make a bond like that. But if it means something to you, then there is a chance you could both make a casually friendly bond. I have cousins that live in another country. They've gone through lifestyles I will NEVER be able to relate to in any way. Some of them, I can't stand being around for longer than a few minutes.
But they are family. They've never done anything wrong to me personally. And you only get one family in this lifetime. So part of me will always care about them, even if I can't do much for them.

Due to the certain pandemic it is unlikely I will see them in person until 2022 or perhaps later. My brother and his family, at least to my knowledge, are going to stay in Australia. They have what they need there, and my brother's business has nothing here in America - he is doing well for himself and hi family.
My cousins live less than an hour away from me, I see them every couple of months, at family events and stuff. They are younger than me, are spoiled. They have their colleges and stuff paid for and come from a rich family who got their money from one of their members who's a brain surgeon. While my family and I, are the ones that struggle through everything and work hard to get what we get and appreciate what we have - so I never formed a bond with them, whatsoever really. - Show next comments 9 more
