I my view Equestria is the 4th planet from its sun. Celestia and Luna do not actually move the sun and moon, but they do a series of powerful illusions and lensing of time and space to make it look like they are. Bending the light.

Bending the light is the key, as light causes heat, which warms stuff up.

She doesn't gloat, she doesn't smile, she doesn't even talk-she just comes on steadily and surely, malevolent and murderous. With all the power of the Sun.

Whereas Nightmare Moon's primary attacks were lightning and magic blasts, Magmare Sun uses fire, earthquakes, and geysers of molten rock in her attempts to raze Equestria to the ground. What brought about this transformation in Equestria's kindest sovereign? And how can she possibly be stopped?

I spent like the majority of my classes daydreaming.

One of the things that I found funny, was that I was imagining Queen Chrysalis just smashing through the glass and changelings coming in and feeding off of students love for hating of school.
