SpoilerB! The song is written about a ghost truck driver named Big Joe who sacrificed himself to avoid killing a camper full of kids. Pete Trudell serves as a partial basis for the story, choosing instead to crash into a wall and endanger himself than hit a bus full of kids. Trudell died in the accident but as far as I know the kids were okay.
