I doubt anyone remembers, but a few months ago in Rimworld I came across a recurring character. The Nose.
I see them in every play through of the game, and they get progressively more dangerous with each encounter. I’ve killed several. But one stuck out.
This fellow came with some of the best armor in game and incendiary weapons with three other people. They all wreaked havoc on my defenses. Substantial damage at the cost of two of their people. Those 4 caused severe injuries to my most well trained colonists, of which there were 6 at the time. We fought them to a stalemate and they decided to take what they can and leave. This translated to steal the weapons from their dead colleagues and then retreat.
Not too long ago they came back. But it was a raiding party of 14.
They absolutely demolished my defenses, killed two of my best, and injured some of my others so badly they wound up losing limbs. The Nose was in this raiding group.
My colonists had to retreat, during which time we lost another. So 3 dead. The raiders again decided to steal their own equipment from dead or dying colleagues and then left. 8 managed to get away.
The Nose was killed. But not by me. One of his own people shot him in the back with the strongest weapon in game by mistake and that was it.I was mad. I wanted to be the one to kill him! I captured the one who stole the kill from me later on and did some terrible things to her. She’s currently a cow.
Well, last night the people The Nose belonged to came back 14 strong with all their armor and incendiary weapons...
They got absolutely demolished by a combination of my defenses, my people, and a rainstorm that hit at the opportune time, essentially making their incendiaries worthless. There were no survivors on their side, some minor injuries on my side, and defense damage that was easily repaired.
Bottom line: The Nose is truly the one to fear. So if you ever play that game and come across The Nose... run. He might be a pushover at first, but I swear he remembers you across all saves. There’s blood in the water... and he is thirsty.
FEAR THE NOSE.
