    An asteroid about the size of a car made the closest flyby of Earth a space rock has ever survived this Sunday. It passed just 1830 miles (2950 kilometers) above the atmosphere. 

    For reference, the moon orbits at almost 239,000 miles (384,400 km) from the Earth.

    If this particular asteroid fell to Earth, it would burn up before impact and so would inflict no damage.

      It came from the direction of the sun but I am unsure where about it was visible. But NASA didn’t notice it until it had passed.
