    C! “Cocked Pistol” is code for DEFCON 1, which is described as being reached if and only if “Nuclear war is imminent.” To date, the highest DEFCON level the US achieved was DEFCON 2, which occurred once during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, and again during Operation Desert Storm of the Persian Gulf War in 1991.
