And now it’s time for yesterday’s answer:
Earth’s moon is believed to have been formed following a collision between the early Earth and which of the following ancient planets?
A. Theia
B. Mars
C. 90377 Sedna
D. 1950 DA
The correct answer is...
SpoilerA. Theia is a hypothesized Mars-sized ancient planet that collided with the early earth. This collision is the current prevailing hypothesis for the formation of the moon. It also helps explain why the Earth’s core and mantle are larger than expected of a planet it’s size.
That’s it for this week. See you guys next time, and as always, keep looking up!

@You Theia was destroyed by the impact event. It’s debris coalesced to form the moon (along with some debris from earth itself), and the remainder became part of our own planet. In a sense, Theia is part of us now!
