@Ryzu I would catch Pokemon for HMs. But I would never train them leading to my starter being my only competent Pokemon.

Not if you has Swampart and never used fly....only beat Ruby with my Starter

My pattern now is usually grab one pokemon of choice and ditch the starter and use legendary pokemon for extras. Specifically I use Jolteon with speed to the max and teach it double team
