  1. I just watched the movie "Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Odyssey of the Celestial Ark". The story takes place close to the end of the second season of the anime StarBlazers 2199 and also seems to introduce the next villains for the sequel anime StarBlazers 2202

Many great space battles and a good story

  2. I liked Chrysalis until they started to trash her as an insane maniac. Until she lost her hive, you could have always seen her actions as some sort of “caring for her species“, even if her thinking was messed up.

I would have prefered some sort of redemption, where she finally accepts the change and gets back to her hive. Sadly, even season 9 kept her and the legion of doom as evil instead of making them good or at least neutral at the end.

For Mean Twilight; she had so much potential. If she would have kept the mean 6 together, we could have had an Harmony vs Chaos arc with the mane 6 vs their evil counterparts.

So from the potential, I'd say Mean Twilight and from what we got, Chrysalis😊

Well, I understand your reasoning but Twilight ruling Equestria was the only logical way to show could’ve ended IMAO.

Maybe but they could have done it different. I mean the "Equestria had never been as peaceful as now" comment was kind of messed up with one or two "wold is going to end" problem each season (maybe year for Equestria?)

The way the show did starting from season 1, Twilight's missing was over when she founded her school (learning about friendship, helping with friendship problems, teaching about friendship). The whole "Twilight, you're going to become the ruler" was too fast and kind of messed up her whole life.

She just founded a school and was able to fit everything (leading a school, being a princess, helping others and her private life) together and after less than a year, she again has to change her whole life and give up her school and life.

It's just my opinion, but it would have been better if Twilight would have rejected the crown at the end of season 9 because her friends were more important to her than ruling Equestria. We all know that Twilight was never able to say "no" to Celestia and that would have shown that she actually grew from a needy student to an independent pony/princess.

tbh, it would be interesing to see a Celestia vs Tree of Harmony battle.

    Celestia

    - Has more than 1000 years of knowledge (her own and of every event/book/movie... she learned of)

    - Is a sentient being for over 1000 years

    - Had fought many battles

    - Used the Elements of Harmony

    - Never fell victim to despair or any other dark alicorn trigger despite many traumas

    - Can use many spells, including dark magic

Tree of Harmony (I just call her Treelight now)

    - Has the knowledge of way over 1000 years (of all of Equestria and maybe beyond) -> Yes, I believe the tree is older than Starswirl. Their "seed" might have been a powerup, but they didn't create the tree of harmony (continuity/plot error)

    - Just became a sentient being a few years (?) ago

    - Powerful enough to defeat a dark alicorn, a chaos god and a powered up Tirek with almost all the magic of Equestria

    - Uses powerful holy magic

    - Grows stronger and stronger the more friendship, love and harmony are spreading

    - Needs (or needed?) the Elements of Harmony to survive

Treelight chose Twilight Sparkle as her avatar, so it's likely that she also is a strategist, just like the real Twilight. However, Twilight was Celestia's student and Celestia ruled for over 1000 years, so it might be a tie

    Strategist: 1:1

That's a difficult one. Treelight's weakness might be first; the Elements. Removing them would weaken her. I think even her later form will soner or later create new forms for the Elements and future bearers. Her second "weakness" is Equestria itself; only if there is harmony, love and friendship she will be powered up. However, since we're talking about real Celestia vs Treelight, it's very likely that a non-corrupted/evil Celestia would never ever harm her supjects.

Celestia has the power of the sun, dark magic and who knows what else. (Most likely all the spells created by ponies and other creatures she was able to talk to and/or study. Without a plot weakness, it's very difficult to tell how powerful she actually is, so just to be safe, another tie with a possible victory for Treelight as soon as there is harmony, love and friendship all around the world

    Magical Power 2:2

Know it's getting interesting with many speculation. Assuming that Celestia and Luna had been real children (not 100 years old children) and maybe 10 years old, we can say that Celestia is at least around 1018 years old. (Just because Starswirl mentioned that Celestia still owns him some homework or similar. So when he disappeared, Celestia might have been a teenager. So I just say 18 years old)

So she has her life expirience and the wisdom of 1018 years and all the knowledge of Equestria and the people she met over that time, books she read and everything else

Treelight, from what we can assume, has the whole knowledge of way over 1000 years from every place where her roots/magic is. So from the whole knowledge level, Treelight now takes the lead

    Knowledge 3:2

A quick victory for Celestia. She is a a living being with self-awareness since she was able to think. A sentient being from her birth.

Treelight just became sentient thanks to Twilight and the mane 6. We don't know how Treelight would react but for anytime soon, her newfound self-awareness is weak

    Self-Awareness/Sentience 3:3

Not sure how to handle this one but I'll try my best.

Celestia has many different kind of attacks he can use. She has the strength of earth ponies, the agility of pegasi and a superior unicorn/alicorn magic. She can use spells with her horn (like levitation), spells with words (magic formulars that don't need concentration) and most likely also potions. So we can assume that she can many elements (including darkness and corruption) as well as supporting magic and banishing magic with three different ways of doing so (horn, chanting, potion). Moreover, she can use artifacts. She would be fast enough to avoit Treelight's roots while attacking her with different kind of spells. Maybe dark magic could have a stronger effect of Treelight?

Treelight herself doesn't have a physical form but the tree itself can acts as a body with Equestria wide roots. As a tree, Treelight can neither use artifacts (except of the Elements of Harmony as her fruits) nor potions. Her astral body might be able to use spokel spells. Moreover, she is a master of holy magic powerful enough to defeat a dark alicorn, a chaos god (?) and other enemies. The results are either banishing, killing or petrification. However, all enemies had been evil and/or corrupted by something evil. So would the "magic of friendship(harmony" even have any effect on Celestia? On the show's Celestia, it wouldn't but on the mirror world evil Celestia. However, with evil mirror Celestia, all the other topics would be different, too so it wouldn't actually count.

Knowledge on magic 4:3 (victory for Celestia) and 3:4 (victory for Treelight vs. evil mirror Celestia)

The main problems in this battle are the following:

    1) Both, Celestia and Treelight are good characters/heroes. Treelight's magic might now even affect Celestia, even if Treelight would be way more powerful.

    2) Since they both never had beel able to show everything they can do, we just don't know their limits...if they even have one

With a real body (not just a tree) and more time to learn about being sentient, Treelight would become an overpowered creature. However, if her limit would lie on using only holy magic, Celestia would still win since good alicorns are most likely immune to holy magic since they act as the embodiment of harmony

However, all of this is just a theory, so I could be completely wrong and Treelight is more powerful:mlp_smug: At least for me, I'll prefer to think that Celestia would win

Sadly (or luckily), we'll never know

(another wall of text for a theory. yep, I'm just like Twilight:adorkable:)

  5. I'd say Celestia with max power is the most powerful creature in Equestria. We never really saw her with 100% and the "lost" battles were more or less because of the "mane 6 to the rescue" plot. So for story telling, she had to be shown weak while for story canon I think she held back to slowly teaching her ponies to fight for themselves.

Since Celestia defended Equestria for 1000 years, we can assume that she fought tons of villains and had a lot of time to master her magic to anything beyond unicorn possibilities. Since we don't know Celestia's true power, we don't know if/how she can counter timetravel spells (Starlight) or chaos magic.

However, even if Starlight's (fake?) timelines had been very messed up, we at least can assume that Celestia was able to defeat every single villain up to season 4, since we saw a Tirek timeline. Means, she defeated Nightmare Moon, Discord and Chrysalis in that timeline. The wasteland could have either been the Tirek timeline, a different villain or even a "Starlight's manipulation of time killed everyone" timeline like in Star Trek TNG (last two episodes).

Number 2 would be Daybreaker, followed by Discord and Twilight.

Luna is not on this list, because she didn't have enough time to train/master all her possibilities like Celestia during those 1000 years

Tirek is a special case. He is weak without his magic sucking, but if he actually manages to get Celestia's magic, he might become even more powerful.

Starlight is another special case; she can timetravel and control others, but we don't know how Celestia would deal with it or if those spells have any effect on her. I mean, Celestia knew about the time travel spell but didn't bother to hid/destroy any traces of it (I'd at least hide it at a secret place, with many locks so that no one can get it)

Discord is the last special case worth mentioning. His chaos magic is very powerful, but he is mostly using tricks and mind games. Not sure how he would fight in a real battle.

The most powerful being could be the tree of harmony. However, it never fought against anyone (can't really call the killing of the fake 6 a battle) and we don't know if alicorn magic is stronger or weaker than the Elements of Harmony

  6. that a yay

    Hitch x Pipp

To Love Ru is an ecchi/harem anime with the clumsy and shy main character accidently gets a harem. During the third season, Darkness part 1, one girl actually tries to convince him to go for the harem because if he marries his second love interest, he'll become the king of the galaxiy and can have a legal harem. A funny anime/manga;-)

Righ now, my oc works as a weather pony in Ponyville but he'll late become an author who, unlike me, won't have problems with writer's blocks😉

  8. For a little project I have planned, I try to collect some information about unicorns.

First: What are the most basic/powerful spells unicorns can use to protect themself? So far I have the following

    Levitation

    Magic Shield

    Teleportation

    Blaster/Beam attack

    Second:

How many different kinds of horns did we see in G4? I rememer the following

    Basic Horn

    Long Horns

Curved backwards (Mistmane and her japanese like town)

    See through (crystal like) horns

Do you remember other canon horn forms (broken doesn't count) or fitting spells? Official books also count

    Thanks for the help😊

  9. I guess the question shouldn't be "who knew about it" but more like "who preferred to accept the lie".

With all the stuff they had to prepare their lies (those who came up with the lie, those who planned and built it and those who controlled it), it very likely that many were assuming that the royals were lying. However, they prefered to accept the lie than losing hope and gicing in to depression like the unicorns.

I mean, we all saw how depressed the unicorns had been. They just waited for their deaths/exctinction. The pegasi would also have become way more depressed/angry, so I think they preferred false hope over a horrible truth.

So in short, I think those who were smart knew/assumed that the royals had been lying but preferred to keep their false hope. The children believed it

Not laziness. I'm 100% sure it was done like that because of the toys. Also, magic may not necessarily correlate to destiny. What bothers me is that cutie marks definitively lost their importance. I can 't remember a single one from the movie.

Now, my opinion: it's further evidence that the correlation to G4 is half-hearted. TO ME the movie feels like a completely different world.

yep, same as me. I didn't even realized that they had cutie marks until I made my big "Is G5  the same world as G4 or not" post. Had to visit derpibooru to search some pics until I noticed the one sided cutie marks

Kind of funny how the ponies just accepted the cutie marks as natural instead of a proof of magic.

I still hope that they will change it back to both sided cutie marks, just like every other mlp show did it for 38 years

ps: Yeah, I also see G5 as a complete different world as G4

My theory is you need magic drained completely in order for a cutie mark to disappear since we see Tirek able to drain magic completely with cutie marks gone and in season 9 of G4 also drain magic just partially and have the cutie mark still there.

You're right, completely forgot about Tirek

So maybe the new writers actually did that on purpose to show that there still was a little magic in the ponies left. So hopefully, we'll get cutie marks on both sides again in the show

I don't think they will because it probably cost more just to put the same cutie mark on both side and keep it consistent so it doesn't flip around looking like an animation error

I made a sacrifice and looked at a few scenes of all generations and so far every single one, G1-3.5 had the two sided cutie mark, just like G4

Changing it now because of money would wrong

    Spoiler

    G1

    G1 movie (one of them?)

    G2

    G3

    G3.5

I skipped G4 since we all know the butts of our ponies :mlp_smug:

So yeah, would be wierd to change it now after 38 years just to fit the toys

  13. 1 minute ago, ShadOBabe said:

It’s very unlikely that it’s an error or mistake. It was a consistent through the whole movie. And movies like this take years to make and have to be approved by Hasbro. They made a conscious decision to put the marks only on their right flanks.

Doesn’t mean I like it, but I definitely think they did it on purpose.

So it might be likely that

    1. they changed it because of "sell our toys"

    2. to show that the magic wasn't completely gone but messed up. So the one sided cutie marks only been there because of messed up magic

I hope they'll change it back for season 1

They usually only add cutie marks on one side of the toys, so that might have been intentional so they match, but uuuuuuugh, it drives my symmetry addiction up the wall!!

But I have NO EXCUSE for having cutie marks without magic.

Maybe they actually had their magic still inside them, but it couldn't be used while the tribes were separated. But that wasn't the case the LAST time that happened. The first time the ponies were segregated, they all still had their abilities.

Googled a bit and it seems that G1 and G2 also had cutie marks on both sides. So it's either an error or they forgot about it. Still hope they'll do it on both sides again

And yeah, the whole "lost magic" thing is a big problem for the whole G5 world. On one side, we don't have magic at all (which would mean death for a few species. and yes, I also add unicorns on the list of species that would go exctinct) on the other side we have those special things like cutie marks or special abilities. To be honest, even the singing and "everypony knows the text" is based on magic to me

A possible theory could be, that the magic itself wasn't completely gone, but messed up. That way, the "one side cutie marks" would make a little sense, same with abilities.

    37 minutes ago, Fluttershutter said:

I assume there was still just enough magic. Same with Hitch's animal attraction and Izzy seeing sparkles.

And yeah I noticed they're only on one flank. I hope they fix that for the show. It just makes it easier to see. Like license plates on both sides.

Yeah, the pre Heart's Warming time was full of conflicts (and would have made a good G5 movie and show) but it showed that the magic does not need the friendship/unity of ponies. Other species also had magic, same as the whole world

  15. I didn't really notice it while watching the movie, but did they mess up the cutie marks in two different ways?

    1) I mean, Cutie Marks usually appear when discovering your talent/destiny. The way they appear always looked like magic to me. So no magic = no cutie mark

    2) It seems as if the animators got lazy and only add a cutie mark on one flank.

What do you think? Was is an error or do G5 cutie marks work different than G4 cutie marks?

  16. lol, for me it's Dashie but Derpy is awesome^^

A loving mother with at least two jobs and she loves muffins :-3

  17. I think most of use were surprised to end up as fans of my little pony. G4 did a good job to show us that a cartoon about ponies doesn't mean it's bad. To be honest, 11 years ago I would have never thought I'd become a pony fan or even writing pony fanfics but then I discovered mlp by accident and now I'm a brony for 10 years (joined during February 2011, so the second half of season 1).

Even if it's difficult to say, do you think you'd become a brony if the G5 was the first mlp content you'd watch? (So yeah, in this question, G4 didn't happen yet)

Since I only discovered mlp G4 because of the hype and the many fan content, I'd most likely not know about this movie right now, except it would have started hype. However, assuming there would be a hype by now (or I'd see the movie in my netflix recommondations) I'd give it a try. It wouldn't be my first "meant for children" cartoon

It was good but wouldn't turn me into a brony yet. However, I'd be curious and give a possible series a try

    • Brohoof 1
  18. How high were youe expections for the movie?

At first, I had moderate expections toward the movie. My biggest fears were that it would end up horrible (G3.5) or would destroy everything G4 stands for. The more spoilers appeared, the lower my expections got. Mostly because of the forced G4 references

How good was the movie relative to your expections

I'd say the movie appreached my expectations. There luckily only had been a few G4 references, so that, to me, I don't see it as a sequel but a complete different world.

The story was filled with depression of the three races from well hidden (earth ponies) to hard to not see it (unicorns. hell, they just waited for their exctinction). The heroes actually were helpful to make the movie good and the ending opens the door to a first season.

The thing I mostly dislike was the forced "G4 sequel" plot. Looked more like a "if we add G4, more bronies will watch it" move or even a "if we don't make a G4 sequel, no one will watch it" fear
